Strange bedfellows: Michael Savage Donates to Democrats
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 10/16/06 | arual

Strange bedfellows: It turns out that ultra-hot conservative talk show host Michael Savage is backing Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown for state attorney general. "What can I say? I think he'd make a great attorney general compared to the other guy. By the way, who is the other guy?'' Savage said, when asked why he chose Democrat Brown over conservative Republican Chuck Poochigian. Savage, whose rants can be heard locally on KNEW-AM, is backing up his hot talk with some hot money as well. Savage Productions, which lists Savage as president and his wife, Janet Weiner, as director, has donated $5,600 to Brown's campaign. "You have to make choices in an imperfect world,'' Savage said. "And this, this Machugian guy. (Like we said, it's Poochigian.) I never heard of him. I don't even know who he is." Poochigian has spent the past 12 years in Sacramento, first in the Assembly and now in the Senate. Doesn't impress the president of the Savage Nation. "Why bet on a horse that isn't going to win? Why throw your money into the garbage?'' So how did the best-selling author of "Liberalism is a Mental Disorder'' wind up backing a liberal once nicknamed "Governor Moonbeam"? "People change. He changed. He has experience,'' Savage said of Brown. "He started the Oakland military academy -- that was a good thing." And Brown's politics? "He's moved to the center, which is what this socialist state needs," Savage said.

"Savage is a asshole. I can't believe anyone bothers to listen to him. "

How did you manage to come up with such a thoroughly reasoned and erudite evaluation?

"Ok, Master Jedi Conservative, tell me: is President Bush a hard-right Conservative?"

Too bad this isn't a Bush bashing thread, but it isn't.

It is about Savage supporting a moonbat for California AG

Stay focused you Weiner followers.

Savage is like Pat Buchanan: He's wrong a good portion of the time, really wrong. He's also an ignoramus regarding security and economics (as someone else said). When he is right, he can be as entertaining as anyone out there, IMO. I disagree that he is a faux conservative. He certainly is more conservative than "Raymond" McCain and Arlen Sphincter. The Rush bashing is his ego getting in the way, and he very well may need Lithium. Bipolars can be very entertaining... and the complete and utter rejection of political correctness is sometimes refreshing.

I believe that Jimmy Carter was rated as the President in the last century with the highest IQ. And we all know the font of wisdom that flowed from his peanut head.

And you believe Hush Bimbo and Sean Vannity are real conservatives?

Give us some reasons we shouldn't. Meanwhile, I'll give you one reason not to believe Savage may not be. (Ahem) HE DONATED TO JERRY FREAKING BROWN for ATTORNEY GENERAL!

Oh, yes, and "Well, Bush supported Arlen Specter and Linc Chaffee over conservatives, so that makes it okay for Savage to support Jerry Brown"? No, it doesn't. Arlen Specter is so much an improvement over Jerry Brown it's not even funny. Jerry Brown is so screwed up that even Linc Chaffee is an improvement over him. I think even Jim Jeffords might be a step up. Yeah, that bad. Supporting Jerry Brown is simply indefensible.

I don't care if he knows this other guy, we all know Jerry Brown and there is no way in heck I'd vote for him (if I was still livingin California).

No, it doesn't. Arlen Specter is so much an improvement over Jerry Brown it's not even funny.

I wouldn't go that far, but I will say this: Bush backed liberal Republicans Arlen Specter and Lincoln Chafee against conservative Republicans in primary races with the goal of defeating Democrats in the general elections in November. Savage is donating to Jerry Brown over conservative Republican Poochigian in a general election. Savage is not reluctantly backing a moderate with the hope of defeating a liberal, he is backing a liberal with the hope of defeating a conservative. HE WANTS A LIBERAL TO WIN. How dare he say any other interpretation is "spin!"

Granted, it's not that they're so great, it's that Jerry sucks so much more.

Because I use to listen to him until I realized he only says the stuff he does to feed his megalomania and promote his show.

The center that doesn't think that the SWAT team shouldn't have machine guns because they 'create a culture of violence', like the District Attorney in SF.

I'm not saying he's really a centerist on a whole or anything, but his record on law and order issues, especially in Oakland, isn't all that bad. He'd be as big of a disaster as Governor if he were to run again (apparently, this is legal because the term limits were not instituted when he was governor) as he ever was. But as AG, I don't think he'll be terrible. Do I think he'll be good? Not really, but AG doesn't have to be a terribly partisan job, and I don't think he'll make it one.

I disagree with Savage about 40% of the time, about equal to that of Bush. No one can disagree that he is controversial and broadens political discourse.

"You have to make choices in an imperfect world,'' Savage said. "And this, this Machugian guy. (Like we said, it's Poochigian.) I never heard of him. I don't even know who he is."

Unabashedly showing his ignorance.

"He's moved to the center, which is what this socialist state needs," Savage said.

Center? ROFL. He's still Moonbeam Jerry.
Now he thinks the most problematic "assaults" in California are by those trying to defend themselves from envirowhackos!

Specifically, I pledge:

  1. To defend California’s laws against legal attacks on stem cell research and a woman’s right to choose.
  2. To protect the environment and promote conservation and renewable energy in the face of continuing assaults on California laws.

I think Savage's goal is to undermine real conservatives by acting like a jerk.
