Evan as a Cane fan, Thomas's remarks were just WAY over the top. I would call it amateur, but even that would be too kind.

I think Larry Coker had the most outlandish comment though. From the Miami Herald: http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/sports/colleges/university_of_miami/15762949.htm

''I think this will affect the image of this program, but in a very positive way,'' Coker said. ``This won't be a negative for the University of Miami.''

The only positive I see from this for the program is that it speeds Coker's demise.

As for the fight itslef, which was a farce in which both teams totally lost control and acted like a bunch of 12 year old thugs, I can understand it somewhat in this regard. The initial fracas broke out when FIU players slammed Miami's holder to the ground and began kicking him in the head. I'm sorry, but a bunch of immature kids (we forget that that's exactly what 98% of college players are) who see something like that happening to one of their teammates, and they're going to come onto the field and defend their mates. That in no way excuses what occurred, and I wholeheartedly agree with the suspensions that were handed down. As I said though, I can understand it in that light.

What really irks me though, is the coverage. Every article and clip I've seen is about the Miami side. Bear in mind, that there were two teams involved. The "other" team had 8 players tossed initially vs. 5 for Miami, and a total of 18 suspensions vs. 13 for Miami. Every bit of coverage is making it out like the fight was Miami's fault alone and they had the most players tossed for it. Ridiculous, slanted coverage. Then again, as a Cane fan, it's what I expect.

I think the Nittanies will contend next year. Young, and improving every week.

I think the toughness that was lost during those few years is back to stay for a while.

Hell it's one of the few incidents in the past 20 years that actually looks WORSE each and every time you see it.

Kinda like the Orioles-Yankees brawl in the late 90s or the Clemson/South Carolina brawl a few years ago.

" The guy sounded like a thug gangster and nothing like a sports commentator. Therefore I assume the next stop for him is ESPN."

Or MSNBC - he can be Keith Olbermann's replacement...

Yep, next year should be the one to watch for. Then the cycle should repeat 2 years later when redshirt freshman QB Daryll Clark is a senior.

well let me just say that it wasn't exactly perfect spoken English :)

Did he say stratergy or nukeular?

Canes fans are punks too. It always amazed me that they would come in our stadium & pick fights during the FSU Cocanes games.

FIU head coach Don Strock seems to be getting a pass here - is it just because he's an ex-Dolphin?

FSU has had to start recruiting trash to keep up with UM. I guess the program figured in order to compete, they had to lower our standards.

We did kick Randy Moss off the team though....in 2006 he would still be on the team.

Dennis Erickson desk drawer-ed about 5 Warren Sapp failed drug tests.

I'd like to take issue with the Big Ten idiots that gave exclusive rights to ESPNU for the Buckeyes game this week.

Maybe it's just me, but TV deals and coverage over the past 10 years in college football has gotten worse and not better? With the Mountain West launching it's own TV network that no one can watch, a fledgling ESPN niche network getting the rights to the #1 team in the country...I guess at least people have heard of ESPNU.

Yep, he's a Hollicane.

Thugs everywhere are wearing their University of Miami licensed apparel with a little more pride today.

Well Time Warner is by and large the biggest cable provider in Central Ohio. They don't carry ESPNU at all I don't think.

it's a strong arm move. It won't work. The sports bars in my area all have ESPNU, I will watch this game and enjoy my time doing it.

That's the problem the satellite providers are having with carrying "The Mtn.". Comcast, being the cable providers in Denver and SLC and part owners of the network have been strongarming Dish Network and DirecTV, so for this season, unless one has cable--and our local cable company here in Boise took one on the chin to carry The Mtn.--you're screwed.

The jackass also stated he wanted to go down in the elevator and join the fight.

The powers that be are going to block out the comments when they sell the video of the game twice more this week.

There will be lots of folks paying to see this garbage now. Just to catch a glimpse of the mayhem.

Not to mention Laverenues Coles and Adrian McPherson. Talk about high-profile dismissals!
Coles is still so pissed about it that he says "Jacksonville Ribault High School" during his introductions; it's kinda sad, but kinda funny too.
