Wesley Snipes indicted for tax fraud
People Magazine ^ | OCTOBER 17, 2006 | Brian Orloff and Jeff Truesdell

Wesley Snipes was indicted Tuesday in Tampa, Fla., on conspiracy to defraud the IRS and failing to file income tax returns.

The Blade actor and two other men, Eddie Ray Kahn and Douglas P. Rosile, are charged with eight counts of conspiracy to defraud the IRS for falsely claiming nearly $12 million in refunds.

Snipes, 44, is also charged with six counts of failing to file tax returns for the years 1999 through 2004.

...

A warrant has been issued for his arrest...

According to the indictment, Kahn was the founder of American Rights Litigators and its successor, Guiding Light of God Ministries...

The indictment says Rosile was a CPA who... preparing, for a fee, fraudulent tax returns for ARL members and collecting a portion of any tax refunds the returns generated.

Snipes, Kahn and Rosile are accused of trying to make it appear as if Snipes had no liability for federal income taxes, when in fact he did...

This is not the first time Snipes's involvement with Rosile has been questioned. In 2002, a lawsuit was brought against Rosile claming he filed false refund claims, including a $7.3 million demand for Snipes, though Snipes was not named as a defendant in the suit, the Associated Press reports.

And last year, the actor experienced further legal troubles when he tried to enter South Africa with a forged South African passport. He was allowed to return to the United States but was deemed an "undesirable person" by the African country, meaning he will have to apply for a visa should he wish to visit South Africa again.

Snipes is best known for his role in the trio of action-adventure Blade films and also starred in movies such as Jungle Fever and White Men Can't Jump.

I agree. However, given his tendency to run afoul of the law, this isn't surprising.

Right. I'd hate to be him right now. $12 Million isn't chump-change.

Can somebody tell me if this guy is still famous or if he's a hasbeen with possible financial troubles. I know, I'm really out of the loop.

Anyway, if he's got the money and just making a point not filing his income taxes, I sort of admire his guts.

Since Wesley is a big Democrat supporter, shouldn't the headline be:

Democrat insider indicted for tax fraud

I could be wrong about this, but didn't I read that Wesley Snipes (who happens to be one of my favorite actors), ran a militia type, black militant training center in Georgia or something??? I know that sounds crazy..maybe I got a movie plot mixed up! LOL!

It is crazy for him to be so brazen when he is famous. There
never was a way he could get away with this, especially not filing when he has a big income and that is common knowledge.

With this publicity though, are you sure he isn't running for a GOP congressional seat?

Well, I found this when I googled him:

Wesley Snipes is a seasoned, trained martial artist in a number of different disciplines including Karate, Kung Fu and Capoeira, an African/Brazilian martial art. Snipes never approached acting from an angle like “wow, maybe one day I'll be using martial arts on films”. And even while he was training at the State University of NY in Purchase, he didn't try to include martial arts in the acting side of his life. But he has been training in martial arts since he was twelve. And he has trained in a number of styles, under some really great teachers. A lot of them come from Harlem. Snipes likes a lot of fighting styles, each one for a different reason. He loves all of the Chinese systems for line and beauty, and flexibility. And now all of this ancient Egyptian and Brazilian and Indonesian stuff that he is training in. He also trains in some African-born systems which are very deadly, where you have to train like cats fighting - wild cats in the jungle - jumping out of bushes and that kind of stuff. It is just like living in the Bronx or Brooklyn! Snipes doesn't have time for any pretty stuff. He prefers fast – strong, effective combinations. Wesley has a basic philosophy of life that guides him through all the standard craziness. He tries to keep things very spiritual. That's a strong motivation for behaviour, and a discipline and a check and balance to all of this Hollywood stuff he is in. He’s quite accomplished in martial arts and trains for his own enjoyment. Pretty much everything you see in the movies is how he really is. He stays in pretty good shape most of the time. He is always somewhere in shape or within the range of being in shape. So he can buff it up, slim it down, or tighten it up depending on what the role is. I would like to add that Snipes is doing something very wise, something that Bruce Lee first started doing. He and his crew search for effective martial arts techniques and find a way to incorporate them in their films. He may not have the kicking abilities of Jean Claude Van Damme but what he lacks in flexibility he gains in innovation and charisma. He uses street-smart moves and he has created his own style of fighting, thus creating history in martial arts films.

Maybe I read he had a martial arts center. (Enter Emily Litella)...That's very different.....NEVER MIND.

Eddie Kahn of “American Rights Litigators” represents the Hee-Haw contingent of the tax protestor movement. “Without any doubt, the most stupid of all the ‘professional’ tax protesters. Mr. Kahn's ‘arguments’ are so utterly juvenile and worthless as to barely worth the space I am using to type this sentence.” ~ Taxes.com

Eddie caters to the dumbest of the dumb, and his theories for not paying taxes are thus the dumbest of the dumb. Eddie has claimed variously that he can’t find the Form 1040, that the IRS was not created by Congress and apparently just materialized out of the blue, that the IRS doesn’t have the power to collect taxes, that the United States doesn’t actually include the states, but is actually limited to the District of Columbia, that all the money collected from taxes goes to the International Monetary Fund (Eddie doesn’t say who pays for our aircraft carriers, but what the hey), and that so long as keep out of the Social Security Program that you’ll never have to file taxes. All of these theories have lost in court, see Tax Protestor Dummies. It seems that if somebody has tried a theory, lost, and then gone to jail that Eddie will then take it and advocate it as gospel.

But don’t take Eddie’s hick approach to mean that he’s not an innovator. Eddie has come up with the concept of the “Nonenforcement Pocket Commissions” (whatever the heck those are) to justify saying “No!” when the IRS comes a’collecting.

Treasury agents raid office in Mount Dora

A lawsuit said a ministry sells tax programs showing how to hide income.

Eddie Kahn's Office Raided by U.S. Treasury Department

MOUNT DORA -- Federal agents with the U.S. Treasury Department have searched a second-story office suite at 440 S. Donnelly St., carrying out boxes filled with documents and computer equipment, Mount Dora police said Monday.

Shop owners in the area said the office is run by Guiding Light of God Ministries, headed by Eddie Kahn and his wife, Kathleen, of Sorrento.

The indictment said that American Rights Litigators claimed to be an organisation which used aggressive accountants to protect Americans’ rights. Its successor “held itself out as a Christian ministry . . . established to assist men and women in their pursuit of truth and freedom as Americans”.

The indictment added: “In reality, ARL and GLGM were for-profit, commercial enterprises that promoted and sold fraudulent tax schemes.”

Prosecutors said that the tax advisors claimed refunds on the basis of the discredited “861 argument”, asserting that US citizens could be taxed only on income from activities overseas. The indictment said that American Rights Litigators would get 20 per cent of tax refunds obtained by its clients.

Mr Perez said: “Those who intentionally and unlawfully harass the IRS (Internal Revenue Service) through deceit, trickery and fraud undermine the collection of revenue that is vital to every aspect of our Government.”

A September 24 DCCC press release listed “artists who are supporting the event,” most likely by sending a check, but which I did not see mentioned in any news story about the event: “Jack Nicholson, Martin Sheen, Ben Affleck, Maya Angelou, Marilyn and Alan Bergman, Billy Crystal, Robin Williams, Michael Douglas, James Gandolfini, Wesley Snipes, Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, Goldie Hawn, Sally Field, Whoopi Goldberg, Christopher Reeve, Anjelica Huston, John Travolta, Kevin Spacey, and Annette Bening.” That press release is online at:

I don't know a whole lot about him, but he does martial arts training. I never heard about a black militia though.
