Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's prospects for becoming the nation's first female House speaker depend not only on a Democratic victory in November but also on her ability to prevent any Democrats from voting against her -- primarily centrists opposed to her liberal stances. At least one Democratic House candidate has pledged not to support Mrs. Pelosi, and others in conservative districts have refused to commit their support -- potentially leaving Mrs. Pelosi shy of the 218 votes required for the chamber's top post.

As Newt Gingrich found out it's one thing to throw stones as the minority leader but it's another thing to keep the troops in line as speaker. And I don't think Pelosi has as many friends on her side of the aisle as Gingrich did on his.

I bet what has happened is the Dems did some internal polling and found out the words "Speaker Pelosi" hurts them at the voting both.
The men of the Democratic party are held hostage by the amazonian abortion lobbby. There is no way they would stand up to the pressure to annoint Pelosi-aurus. Even if they tried, the female Democrats of the house would play the gender discrimination card, and the men would crumble.

I agree. GOP will retain control of both houses IMHO. Libs will be screaming voter fraud as usual.
It would still be great if the trolls from the lunatic left went to their websites in panic and spread the news that Pelosi is no longer viable for Speaker. All their hard work, their fear and smear campaign, all the millions of dollars they've given to the democrats was for not. I want them demoralized today, election night, and every day after.

This is what I have been saying all along. There is no way the Dems would allow a woman to be Speaker. If by some disaster the Dems take control of the House, watch for the smear campaign against Pelosi to be unleashed by the DNC elite. Hoyer would end up Speaker.
