On Friday, September 29, two congressional scandals went public. One of them instantly became front-page news in every newspaper in the country, and led the broadcast networks' evening and morning news shows for the next 10 days; the other one went virtually unnoticed, and seemed to drop into a news black hole.
The first featured despicable behavior by a member of Congress against several underage congressional pages; the second one featured despicable behavior by a member of Congress against more than half a million residents of his congressional district, and against every one of his fellow members of Congress, to whom he had been lying for more than a quarter century....

Contrary to Murtha’s stated defense that he only discussed how to bring needed investment into his southwestern Pennsylvania congressional district, the video proves that Murtha believed he had cut a deal to take a $50,000 cash bribe in exchange for helping a rich foreigner get into America, and proves further that the “investment defense” was nothing more than a cover to throw suspicious reporters off the trail.

You gotta give this woman one thing: She is fighting hard. I wish we had more Republicans who would stand up and fight instead of walking away with their tails between their legs.

That's for sure...at least here in PA. For most elections, the party runs maybe a token opponent...doesn't provide him/her with any money and just leaves the poor soul to be hung out to dry. I said before we have an entrenched electorate...people who vote the same in every election, mostly Democrat, and if it's an incumbent, they will vote for him/her merely because this is someone they know...they don't know the other guy. Never mind that the incumbent may be a crook, a pedophile, a traitor or whatever...he's the crook/pedophile/traitor they know. The party does little or nothing to get its candidate out before the people...let them know where he/she stands on issues and persuade the voters that there is indeed a better candidate out there to vote for.

Irey certainly has been aggressive. Even if she loses, I think she has a bright future in politics, and can probably knock out Murtha in 08.

It's easier to fight hard, if there are no skeletons to be found in your own closet. I don't know much about Diana Irey (nice portrait photo), but I strongly suspect that her conscience is clear.
Is there any recent poll(s) on this race? Is Irey gaining on Jack-don't-know-Schitt?
