Came in late, but I heard the part about a group looking into buying the Globe, though to date the NYT is still saying it's not for sale. According to Howie, it was sold to the NYT in 1992 for 1.1 billion. Seems to be worth about half that now. It's losing money, though its website, boston.com, is making money.

I haven't read the Globe in years, since it finally pushed me over the edge, but I can't imagine why the Herald seems to be trying to imitate it lately -- much more liberal editorial stance (not always, but enough) and wayyyy to frequently carries op eds by Kerry and Kennedy. (Yech!)

LOL! Howie says if he were a family member of Welch or Hill (thinking of buying the Globe), he'd be looking to get a guardial ad litem appointed, because they're clearly not of sound mind!

Caller: "Howie, why do you have such a distaste for the Globe?" and he's not kidding. Takes all kinds . . . (Or, as the old NH farmer said, "No, it don't. We just got all kinds.")

True..I was just scanning a blog by Michael Gee (ex-Boston
Phoenix, Boston Globe) attacking the "snootiness" of the Globe.

one line: "The collective nuttiness was THE number one reason working their (sic) was a joy."

I put in a comment to Michael saying, "Got spell check?
I guess it isn't _there_ on your computer!" :)

Then he (Howie) points out the gay marriage obsession with the Globe, goes to news break, and the lead story is about same sex couples rights. I can't stand it anymore!

Lucky you don't subscribe to the Globe - I understand that right out of the box, they started running pictures of gay "newlyweds" -- as I say, I haven't gotten it in years, though I frequently wonder why I waited so long to drop it! (Actually, they do have the most complete obituaries (or Irish comics/Irish sports pages, if you prefer!)
