WHY IS JACK SCARED TO DEBATE? REASON NUMBER 10: HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW THAT HE VOTED AGAINST PROTECTING TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE

(MONONGAHELA, October 27) -- Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey -- responding to Jack Murtha's refusal to meet with her to debate the issues, despite newspaper editorials urging him to debate, a League of Women Voters offer to host and sponsor a debate, and local television stations' offer to air the debate - today released this statement:
"Last week, we began our 21-part series, 'Why doesn't Jack want to debate?' wherein I suggest 21 reasons Jack Murtha might be refusing to debate me in public.
"Today I offer reason number 10 Jack Murtha is scared to debate me: because HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW THAT HE VOTED AGAINST PROTECTING TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE.
"Two days ago, the New Jersey Supreme Court made the Garden State the second state in the Union to recognize same-sex marriage.
"Jack Murtha has said not one word about that ruling in the two days since it was issued. And it's no wonder -- as recently as July 18 of this year, he voted against a Constitutional Amendment that simply reads as follows:
Marriage in the United States shall consist only of the union of a man and a woman. Neither this Constitution, nor the constitution of any State, shall be construed to require that marriage or the legal incidents thereof be conferred upon any union other than the union of a man and a woman.
"I've been saying for months that in his quest to gain more power for himself, Jack Murtha has turned his back on his culturally conservative southwestern Pennsylvania constituents, and has begun voting instead more as if he were the Congressman from liberal San Francisco. Perhaps nothing he's done in the last few months proves this point more clearly.
"Defenders of traditional marriage and the simple proposition that marriage should be given an exalted position in our society, with the understanding that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, should be on notice -- if Jack Murtha is reelected, and the Democrats take control of the House of Representatives, traditional marriage as we know it will be dead and buried within a matter of just a few years.
"Jack Murtha, by his vote against the Marriage Protection Amendment on July 18, proved he no longer represents the values of southwestern Pennsylvania. And now he doesn't want to be held to account for it. No wonder he doesn't want to debate me."

He voted against the Border Control, Antiterrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005. 11. He voted against the Secure Fence Act of 2006. 10. He voted against protecting traditional marriage.
