The Worst Political Web Sites

The problem in selecting the most ridiculous, poorly crafted, or just plain bizarre political Web sites is an embarrassment of riches: There are so many worthy contenders. But whatever the criteria, the Web site of Rep. Chris Smith, a New Jersey Republican who's running for re-election, would qualify. Anyone thinking of putting up a Web site that's devoid of actual content should skip the project instead on grounds of sheer embarrassment. (We took the accompanying screen snapshot last week. This week, the Web site has changed to become even less useful.)

Very well worth following the link and laughing at the silliness.

There are 17 that they selected to be especially bad. I will track down the original sites and see if any have been updated since their special recognition.

#1 -

http://www.smith4nj.com/

Well, now the site consists of letters and a couple of scanned images recommending folks vote for the boy.

Still very bad for a politico who has raised ocer 1 million.

Remember when AlGore was VP? As the Inventor of the Internet, he had to have a web site.

So he put one up with a number to call if you are a big donor, and a web site address. Only trouble is, the number gets you the VP's office in Washington, and the address is in DC too. A major violation of the laws against campaigning from a public office.

So, his webmaster changes the number and the official street address of the website. Now, as I recall, the address is a cemetery in Las Vegas or some place like that. I misremember the exact details, but it was pretty funny.

I actually kinda like Yvonne Brown's webpage. I hope it really is a subtle jab against her apponent and not just a bad webpage.

But that one from the guy with the dog is just idiotic. And his latest post was saying "Of course I'm the dog. I'm not the guy running for Congress."

It's tempting to write a pointed critique of Robert Seals' not-very-well-crafted Web site. It's riddled with typos and "under construction" notices, never a hopeful sign when the election is less than two weeks away. This California politician is a Democrat but is running as an independent after failing to win his party's primary. Seals, who calls himself a "reverend of life" and a drinking water container entrepreneur, won us over with this endearing animal photo on his Web site. Other would-be politicians might feature humdrum elephants or donkeys. But Seals picks a pig.

SealsForCongress

And yes, this piggy photo is still on his site at

The Honorable Mayor Barbara Bobo

This is the BEST Barbara Bobo pic that they can find?? At least take the picture the day after you dye your hair, not two months later.

And she is in the newspaper business??

Also, please spell Aabama right - its "ALABAMA"!

Sheesh.

I also need to be careful casting stones in glass houses.

If it wasn't for FR then I wouldn't have what little HTML skills I have.

But if I am running for office, I would at least find some kid to pop a website for $500.

I counted 8 fonts and even more font sizes for Mr Wright.

Wonder how blind his webmistress is after editing this monster.
