What About Bonilla?
VANITY | 11/5/2006 | Self

I voted early in Texas as did my wife.... we both voted for Henry Bonilla who is up against two RATS for District 23 in Texas. Henry has to get 50% or face a runoff for his House seat. You many recall his was the district that the USSC tossed and added back in several RAT areas including the drug-infested areas of Laredo and the "barrio" of Southern Bexar County. They also trimmed a bit of the reliably Republican areas from him. So, what is the feeling out there Texans? Are we going to keep this seat? I don't often see if listed as vulnerable. A runoff scares me.

I would be worried about it too, but wasn't this the one that Rodriguez jumped in and out of?

Who is the competition? It's not on the 'top 50' list for the Dems, so it's not a target.

Lamar Smith was my rep until redistricting-then Bonilla.
Now that my district has gone back to Lamar Smith, I wonder if Bonilla will win. My county is probably the most solidly Republican around these parts, which is why they had given it to Bonilla, IMHO.

FWiW, most of us were happy to have Bonilla for our Rep, and were sad to go back to Smith. Bonilla was more in touch, and if you called or emailed his office, he'd get back to you, asap. He was more of a go getter for our district than Smith.

Bolanos and Rodriguez. Not sure if Rodriguez is still there or not - I don't recall the ballot (just went straight ticket). WOAI, the local statio here mentioned there may be drama concerning Bonilla's seat so I was wondering if it was playing anywhere besides SA.

LOL, there's the Kinky with the dogs commercial on right now. If dogs could vote, they'd elect Kinky.

Whao nellie ... Lamar Smith said that voting 'straight party' would not record your vote in the special elections since they are not general election races (due to what the courts did last minute), which TX-21, TX-23, TX-25 are ... So I hope you double checked that "BONILLA" was getting your vote!

Kerr County?

My mother is in the same boat; she was looking forward to helping Henry Bonilla, but Smith popped up on the sample ballot (and the real one -- she voted early). I'm in Austin, and used to be in Lamar's district, but was surprised to get the chance to vote against Lloyd Doggett.

It would be a real shame to lose Henry Bonilla's great representation to a Democrat!

I did note for each R. Just didn;t pay any attention to anyone else. So, we're good. I see that Charlie Da RAT Gonzalez also has some coverage near our area.

Correct, We voted straight R, but had to actually check Lamar Smith's name-which was on the back of the optiscan sheet, and to the right side in our district because it's not part of the general election.

Kerr County?

Yeah, Kerr County, if the courts would've asked us if we wanted to be in Smith or Bonilla's district, we would've said Bonilla.

Henry ran against 6 RATS and 1 indy. He won 61% here in Kinney Co. but got only 49% district wide. The runoff will be Dec. 12. Be sure you vote again.
