(AP) NASHUA, N.H. -- Democratic Party leaders in New Hampshire are disavowing a legislative candidate in Nashua who identified himself on a questionnaire as a Democrat and a Communist.
Twenty-two-year-old Daniel Keating is one of five candidates running for three seats House District 25, in the Nashua area.
Keating is listed on the ballot as a Democrat, but in a questionnaire for The Nashua Telegraph's online voter guide, he also described his party affiliation as Communist Party of the United States of America.
Keating said Monday that he joined the Communist Party USA about a year ago because it promotes issues of concern to working people, such as a fair minimum wage.
The Democratic Party isn't endorsing Keating because he listed the Communist Party affiliation.

Sorry. Although I'm not sure if changing my post from Massachusetts Dems to New England Dems would have made much difference. There are some seriously unsound specimens up there.

NH is at least as conservative as NC, TN, and WV in the supposedly red south.

At last, an honest Democrat!
To: Extremely Extreme Extremist
It isnt that the Democrats dont want to endorse him. its just that he was stupid enough to admit to being a Commie.
Hell!! they endorse John Kerry and he is a Commie. Worked with them for years. Went to france during the Viet nam war to work with them. Worked with Jane Fonda who worked with Communists.

Why would they disavow him?
Do they think it's a big secret that Democraps and Commies are one and the same?

a fair minimum wageI guess he's too young and stupid to realize that communism means minimum wage for everybody.

There are
three other college-age kids running as Democrats for Nashua seats. Either Nashua, a big city by New Hampshire standards, is solidly Republican, or the Democrats are very poorly organized, or New Hampshire has a strange electoral system.
The last thing is certainly true, though not in a bad way. New Hampshire politics are quite different -- a lot more Republican -- than those of the surrounding states. And the legislature, the General Court, is larger and more part-time than other legislative bodies. There are multi-member districts and 3,000 voters for each representative. At 400 members (for such a small state) it is the 4th largest legislative body in the English-speaking world.

I love it; the Dems disowned him not for his embracing repugnant anti-liberty political proposals per se, but rather for admitting he belongs to a competing political organization (CPUSA).
That's priceless.

There are multi-member districts and 3,000 voters for each representative. Actually, it's 3000 CITIZENS (not voters) per state rep.
1.2 million population/400 Members of general court=3000 citizens/member.
The voting population is roughly half the population so it's about 1500 voters per seat in the General Court.

Another thing to note is that our elected state reps receive almost no pay. Much better chance that they are really there to serve.
NH is mostly conservative except the people fleeing mass who haven't learned that the way they vote is what made mass so bad, and the college towns.

Apparently they only get $ 200 a year. So it comes close to a Jeffersonian dream of citizen legislators.
And I guess the hope is that it would be hard to bribe such a large body without something getting out.
