And when Democrats fail to act on Republican initiatives, expect Bush to denounce the do-nothing Congress as Harry Truman did back in 1948. Moreover, Bush can create showdowns with Congress on issues where he has the stronger hand, as Bill Clinton often did, putting Democrats into no-win situations that will quickly erode their support.
Thus, we see that even if Democrats retake control of the House and maybe the Senate as well, there are many challenges that await them. The Republicans will still have a lot of leverage against Democratic initiatives. And let us not forget that everything that goes on in Congress the next two years will be against the backdrop of a presidential election in 2008. It is quite possible that a Democratic victory in Congress this year will actually forestall what otherwise would have been a White House victory in 2008.

Bartlett is naive and stupid.
A Democrat House will refuse to fund the Iraq war (which is what they did in the 70's - refused to fund the Vietnam war) and we'll hav to leave.
Our military men and women will have died in VAIN over there. For nothing.
And the jihadists will laugh and call us cowards. This is what the Democrats will do to us.
And what country will ever trust our word again.
dont forget all the investigations that will hamper Bushs authority as well as public opinion and prpoganda from the emboldened left wing media.
If the Dems win today, expect the drive-by media to start screaming for "bipartisanship" tomorrow, a word they haven't uttered during six years of Democrat obstructionism. All we've heard from them is that it is time for a change, but if the Dems control D.C., you won't hear a word about change for the next forty years. The msm is disgusting.
That's the absolute bottom line right there.
Anything else that happens, pales in importance, by comparison.
What to expect after the election you ask?
1. Reintroduction of the Assult Weapons Ban, but this time all semi-autos and anything that can have a scope attached will also be banned. Basically destroying the 2nd Amendment.
2. Repeal of the Bush tax cuts and reintroduction of the Death Tax in full force.
3. 24/7 Congressional Committee investigations of the presidents "reasons" for going to war in Iraq.
All this WILL be passed because all these new laws will be tied to funding of the WOT and Bush will be forced to sign anything the dems want. The media was on Clinton's side when he faced a Repub. congress, its visa-versa time and Bush will be pounded and beaten by the time Jan. 2009 comes around and the media will have made him 2nd to Hitler the most hated person in world history.
Thats what going to happen, and we can blame it all on the F'ing P-whipped Repubs. in congress who were given a great chance to get things done for 6 years and BLEW IT!!!!
Pelosi is THIRSTING to pull the plug on this war. To do so will bring about disaster, not only in Iraq but wherever other countries will decide it's open season to invade their neighbors, knowing that the only leader with a pair will have been hogtied in his ability to respond. What would Syria, North Korea, Iran, etc. have to fear, at worst--a strong condemnation from the UN?
Look what we can expect from the liberals:
In our brave new schools, Johnny can't say the pledge, but he can recite the Quran. Yup, the same court that found the phrase "under God" unconstitutional now endorses Islamic catechism in public school.
In a recent federal decision that got surprisingly little press, even from conservative talk radio, California's 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled it's OK to put public-school kids through Muslim role-playing exercises, including:
Reciting aloud Muslim prayers that begin with "In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful . . . ."
Memorizing the Muslim profession of faith: "Allah is the only true God and Muhammad is his messenger."
Chanting "Praise be to Allah" in response to teacher prompts.
Professing as "true" the Muslim belief that "The Holy Quran is God's word."
Giving up candy and TV to demonstrate Ramadan, the Muslim holy month of fasting.
Designing prayer rugs, taking an Arabic name and essentially "becoming a Muslim" for two full weeks.
Parents of seventh-graders, who after 9-11 were taught the pro-Islamic lessons as part of California's world history curriculum, sued under the First Amendment ban on religious establishment. They argued, reasonably, that the government was promoting Islam.
But a federal judge appointed by President Clinton told them in so many words to get over it, that the state was merely teaching kids about another "culture."

The problem with the Pubs as I see it is they hardly ever acted like a majority party. There were no answers to the false claims of RATS, no united front with the President. There were no press conferences called at opportune times, there was little behavior that made them appear to want to be in charge.
That's what the perception is I believe. People who think a party is disinterested or luke-warm about being in charge often grant them just what they seem to want. Ask George Bush Sr.
That said, I'm optimistic about todays elections for the Pubs. But if they lose significant ground it'll be much for the reasons I outlined above. IOW, their own darned fault. Many of these contests shouldn't have been anywhere near a horse-race, IMO.
OUR President Bush? Is this guy nuts?
Were it only a possibility, I would not be sitting on pins and needles waiting anxiously for the (possibility of) other shoe to drop and we losing at least, the House.
As much as I like W (and voted for him twice) he is FAR from being a "Conservative" and is way to "Condescending" towards, and "Cooperative" with the Dhmimis (not to mention being way to PC for my taste) for me to even begin to imagine such a scenario.
PLUS, if we lose the House, we WILL have "Shamnesty" and W will push his Immigration Plan which will be a disaster.
VOTE REPUBLICAN. VOTER EARLY. AND VOTE OFTEN. LOL
The usual way the media covers such press conferences is to do 10 seconds on the point the Republican is trying to make and then give 4 Democrats 30 seconds each to rebut the points the Republican was trying to make.
How many times does a Republican office holder have to try calling a press conference only to see the media coverage result in a well designed attack on the Republican position. It is not hard to see the resulting media coverage is counter productive to the Republican cause.
I am amazed at the power of the media to convince Republicans that if their elected officials only used the media to tell their side of the story the media would cover it fairly.
That would be a silver lining. But I hope we don't have to deal with the cloud in the first place.
