Losing Libertarians
Washington Times ^ | 11/6/06 | David Boaz

Take a look at independent voters. There are more of them than before, especially in the West. More than 25 percent of Arizona voters now register as independent or third-party voters. And according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll, they've shifted sharply toward the Democrats in this fall's elections.

Republican Party forgets that we are a constitutional republic.

And don't seem to take kindly to anyone who remembers.

They've become a bunch of dope-smoking capitalists. All they care about are drugs and money. The reason they want open borders is because they want easy access to drugs and trade. Many would like to go into the drug business. They believe in free enterprise, no or low taxes, no government intervention in anything, and to hell with anybody else.

You are having a bad day

You damn skippy, hippie. I am having a bad day. I had to spend over an hour today dealing with an associate who is a very nice dude, but a raving liberal and listen to his friggin gloating and later I have to hit the restaurant where I'm sure several of my college-student employees who are brainwashed into Marxism at their school will be orgasming. Also, my hip is bothering me, the Jets are going to lose this week, and the gas I currently have is one of those rare types that cause farts that smell bad even to the person who released them.

I had an early-morning meeting today and therefore had to behave myself last night. Needless to say, I'm getting ripped-up drunk tonight.

So your idea of relaxing is to proclaim yourself a big "R" Republican then wrap yourself up defending gloating libertarians?

A suggestion for you, get yourself some "Arrogant Bastard Ale". It's good stuff.

"Voting write-in or not voting at all is a way to send a message to the president that we're angry."

You naively believe that the exact nature of your anger is communicated and understood as such. It is not. The fringes of "conservativism", from the point of view of the media and most political leaders of both parties do not merit discussion, and the nuance of why different conservatives may be "angry" is either not acknowledged, misunderstood or ignored.

The message you speak of might be the message intended to be sent, but with the liberal hold on the LameStreamMedia that is not, never has been, and never will be the message recieved.

Just for example: They will insure that a poll that says "56% of eligible voters disagree with the President on Iraq" will be sold as "56% of the eligible voters want us to abandon Iraq, as quickly as possible". The question: "Do you think our political leaders are not allowing our military to act strongly enough against the insurgents in Iraq", is not a question that will get asked.

You can redo that equation on any issue of your choice, for which the left wants to create an "opposition" and tie that opposition to their specific position, and you can be sure that that is how the LameStreamMedia will translate your protest vote - as just another vote confirming the postion of the left.

They will not allow the public to discern any nuance in the poll, or in their selling of it, once the poll question is text-proofed to hide all the ambiguity in the possible answers. They do the same thing with election results.

I have listened to the media people and the selective talking heads they scheduled for today, and as far as they are concerned your nuanced position is either non-existent or inconsequential in the American body politic.

And, in the reality of politics, they are correct. There is no form of success in defeat and when it is those you are most closely aligned with, most of the time, to which you have chosen to deliver your protest vote, you did only one thing; you reduced the number of potential allies who might agree with you some of the time and increased the number of opponents who rarely ever agree with you. That is self-defeating.

There is one place for that vote, and that is in primary elections, when you can directly speak, and directly protest, concerning the possible candidates that may take your postions from time to time.

In general electionss, your protest vote is universally used as a vote in favor of the other party, no matter what your intentions are.

You, sir, are a consummate idiot. I, too, am a conservative libertarian, but I'm smart enough to know not to CUT MY NOSE OFF TO SPITE MY FACE!!

Sending a message to Bush is meaningless if, through your vote, you leave him powerless and without the tools to do anything about winning in foreign entanglements or any of the other concerns you mention!!!!!!!

You forget that Bush managed to get the message about Harriet Meiers, and immigration to a somewhat lesser extent, WITHOUT HAVING THE RUG PULLED OUT FROM UNDERNEATH HIM AND THE PEOPLE HE NEEDS IN CONGRESS TO MAKE THOSE CHANGES. THANKS TO MORONS LIKE YOU, WE WILL NOT GET OUR JUDGES CONFIRMED AND YOU CAN LOOK AT ANOTHER GENERATION OF FAR-LEFT FEDERAL COURT DECISIONS, MURDER OF THE UNBORN, UNCERTAIN ENERGY SUPPLIES AND COSTS, AND ILLEGALS SWARMING OVER OUR BORDERS, AND THAT'S JUST FOR STARTERS. I'M JUST GETTING WARMED UP ON THE SUBJECT OF THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE YOU IDIOTS HAVE CAUSED JUST SO YOU COULD "SEND BUSH A MESSAGE"! HERE'S A NEWS FLASH FOR YOU, ACE: BUSH CAN'T RUN AGAIN, SO YOUR MESSAGE OF ANGER AT HIM IS MEANINGLESS IN A POLITICAL CONTEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anybody who is gloating is a jackass and I'm not defending them. There is certainly room for discussion of why we lost. I personally think it is because most Americans in general are stupid and cannot comprehend what is going on in the Middle East. I also think that the GOP did not do a good job of bringing the dialog down to their level and explaining in simple terms the reasons why we are there. Stupid people also believe all of the crap the MSM puts out there and refuse to investigate things on their own.

It is easy when surfing FR to forget these things. Freepers on average are much smarter than the average American. But the fact is, people are f%&*in' dumb. That's what it comes down to.

A suggestion for you, get yourself some "Arrogant Bastard Ale". It's good stuff.

That's really really weird. Less than a week ago, a friend of mine sent me a link to their web site FAQ (which is quite amusing). Before that, I had never heard of the stuff. I'd like to try it though.

LOL! I don't for one minute believe you didn't read it. Further, the old "band-width" insult is so old and hackneyed, it even outdates the stupidity of your thinking.

I think we need as many thinking Americans in the conservative movement as possible. We also need a conservative leader who will articulate our position to the electorate. If this election didn't teach us that, we are unteachable.

I understand the concept of marriage being between a couple and the Lord. But for practical purposes, a marriage is an economic and social partnership as well as a matter of faith. The society at large has an interest in the preservation of that partnership. When too many marriages break down and children are raised in single family homes all kinds of negative repercussions are felt throughout society. When marriage is a free-for-all and I'm free to marry another woman, or three men, or my cocker spaniel, or my neighbor's parakeet, I am not the only one who will be harmed by that decision. Any children of the marriage, will, in all likelihood, be profoundly affected by my act, as will society in general. I don't have the right, morally, to impose that burden on others.
