Indiana Democrats Running As Conservatives

KOKOMO, Ind. (AP) -- The Democratic challengers considered most likely to unseat incumbent Republican congressmen in Indiana next month are all running as conservatives.

Former Congressman Baron Hill's Web site mentions "My Faith in God," "The Sanctity of Marriage," and opposition to late-term abortions.

Joe Donnelly says he opposes abortion and wants no part of a mandated troop withdrawal from Iraq.

Vanderburgh County Sheriff Brad Ellsworth campaigns on his career in law enforcement and appears on his Web site carrying a hunting rifle.

Ellsworth is running against incumbent John Hostettler in the Eighth District, Donnelly against Chris Chocola in the Second District and Hill against Mike Sodrel in the Ninth District.

The three Democrats have benefited from more than $3.5 million from the Democratic campaign committee, most of it in commercials attacking their rivals, yet say they are not Washington insiders.

And neither Donnelly nor Ellsworth will say how he would vote when it comes time to elect a Speaker -- sure evidence that Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi of California is not viewed as a political asset.

They don't care ~ if they want campaign funds next time they'll vote with the Nancy woman.

Pelosi and schumer used the these new candidates to get power.

There is zero shift in direction. The dems will have very liberal chairmen like conyers, rangel, barney frank.

The difference is the dem districts punish moderate dems for having an r next to their name while gop districts get played by schumer and pelosi.

I can guarantee you that there is no change in ideology.

What makes the heath schuler's of the world so dangerous is they put ultra liberals like pelosi and conyers in power.

Dems voters care far more about winning. Look at all the dems that won in red districts. New Jersey always rejects gop at state level because dems play to win to further their leftist agenda.

Look at montana they threw away and say over judges. They either don't care that ted kennedy will tie up all the judges in committee or don't pay attention to it. Dems areas are far more movivated.

This new set up is a disaster you will get no funding for the new border fence.

The gop congress blocked bush's amnesty so the payback was to get a dem congress that will work with bush for amnesty.

What makes the new dems so scary is they are so young and they will keep pelosi in power for a decade at least.

Dems don't even change chairmen. Gop had term limits.

There is also the media affect. The liberal media went all out after george allen to get back the senate. They knew they needed his seat.

There is only so much you can do when the media takes sides.

"Now you will get bush and the dems giving us amnesty."

The thoughts of this, especially after this election makes my blood boil!!!!! If this is going to happen I would just rather them toss him out of office first. We now effectively have a liberal democrat congress with a moderate republican in the white house. This is going to be a rough two years for the conservatives.

The Dem strategy has always been "Pretend to be moderate, get elected, vote like a communist."

I think that is true, but a couple candidates in Indiana were once Republicans. I am hoping they don't side with the commie baby killers.

Then I think it will be a waste of Demoratic money. The Conservatives there will see they made a mistake.

If you saw any of the Donnelly TV commercials--he HARDLY passed himself off as a conservative. He left no doubt in your mind he was a liberal democrat.

His commercials were very nasty, very mean, hit below the belt with many of his 'half-truths'--and made it perfectly clear he is a hard-core liberal.

The loss of Indiana's (historically Red state) three seats shows a trend toward the blue--as Indiana continues to lose manufacturing jobs--just like Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

You're preaching to the choir. I sure hope Congressman Billybob gets the Republican nomination in 2008 to knock off Heath Schuler.

The Conservatives in Indiana and elsewhere may well be hauled off to concentration camps before that happens.

I'm afraid you really don't know how evil the Democrats are.

The loss of manufacturing jobs in the Midwest--is threatening to turn the whole Midwest BLUE. You see it in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and the start of it in Indiana and Wisconsin (Illinois is already hopeless).

This trend toward the blue--is going to make it increasing difficult for Republicans in the future--as you will be able to add the Midwest (Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania) to the list of SOLID BLUE states like California and New York.

Now I haven't add up the electoral votes I have just listed--but it's an incredible number to SPOT the democrats before you even start.

IMO, it's payback time. Take several pages out of the Liberal play book and use the same tactics on them.

Not only that, but the conservatives in Indiana are now living in Florida, Arizona, and Nevada.

Donnelly may be liberal and I think he will pay. Below is why the folks in that area are not happy:

Chocola (Donnelly's opponent) has been damaged by the local unpopularity of GOP Governor Mitch Daniels. Particularly controversial is the Governor's decision to lease a toll road which runs through the district to a foreign corporation, which proceeded to raise toll rates dramatically. This has infuriated residents in northern Indiana, and Chocola has suffered greatly from the backlash. Recently, Donnelly was embarrassed when it was revealed that he was delinquent in paying property taxes. An October 26th Majority-Watch poll has Donnelly leading Chocola 48% to 45% [17]. Cook Political Report rating: Republican Toss Up. Results: Donnelly beat the incumbent Chocola 54% to 46%.

On the one hand it's good to know that many more people are getting the conservative message. On the other hand wolves in sheep's clothing can fool the public.

If the jobs are gone, the people will leave those states. The state's populations will go down and the states will lose electoral votes.

Maybe it's just me and the rural town I live in but I believe, despite yesterday's election results, the U.S. population is still moving to the political right. Though a lot of Blue Dogs got elected in the House and the Senate, the spokesmen are still going to be Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, Schumer and other liberals. House chairmanships are going to Harman, Waxman, Dingle, Franks, Conyers and other freaks who are far out of the mainstream. Call me an optimist or a fool, but I think the Democrats have been handed just enough rope to hang themselves over the next two years.

I live in that area--so I think I understand it somewhat.

There is no question that Mitch Daniels' unpopularity hurt Chris Chocola. That certainly was a factor--as was the sale of the Toll Road, again Mitch Daniels which was unbelievably unpopular--and Chocola had nothing to do with it).

Although those were major factors, the loss of manufacturing jobs and the Iraq War were right up there too.
