Bruno blames Bush for Republican losses

ALBANY, N.Y. -- Republican Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno blamed President Bush for the party's losses in New York in last Tuesday's election, saying voters were upset with the direction of the country.
Democrats swept all statewide offices and took three congressional seats from the GOP as part of a wave that gave Democrats control of both the U.S. House and Senate.
"The people were down on the leadership out of Washington, and frankly they've got good reason," said Bruno, the state Legislature's top Republican, citing the war in Iraq as just one factor.
Last week's vote across the country was "aimed directly at what people see as the lack of leadership and the right direction out of Washington, out of the White House specifically," he said.
Bruno called Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld's resignation a day after the election "an abomination" and said Republicans would have fared better had he stepped down before Nov. 7.
A Bush spokesman did not immediately return a call for comment, but on Sunday, the White House defended its decision to delay announcing Rumsfeld's resignation.
"The president correctly decided that this decision does not belong in the political realm," White House chief of staff Josh Bolten said.
In New York, Republicans did keep their majority in the state Senate, but GOP Sen. Nicholas Spano is trailing Democrat Andrea Stewart-Cousins in a tight race in Westchester County. If Spano loses, the GOP will hold a 34-28 majority in the chamber in January.

Everyone is piling on now. Sigh.
New York Republicans blaming someone else for their failures?
Yeah, right.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus
While Bush did take responsibility for the losses publicly (something a stinking RAT would never do), we know he was not the only player in the game, to say the least.
Bruno is an idiot.
I guess Mr. Bruno didn't notice that Congress' approval ratings were even lower than Mr. Bush's.

The GOP in NY blaming someone else for their problems is one of the biggest laughs I have had all year!
Ping
Bush is why we lost, Bush is why we lost, ( Sarcasm)

Great!! We now have Republican leader blaming Bush for wimpy, cowardly Congressional Republicans? Folks, with "leaders" like this, it'll get worse before it gets better.
Another stinking RINO bitching about Bush.
Well Senator Bruno....where the heck have you been for these last few years? Wipe off your nose, I'm not in the mood for smelling Shelly Silver's backside.
There's a Republican leader in New York? Could have fooled me!
Hey Joe - how about blaming that self centered governor of yours in Albany? Are you the one whispering in his ear that he could be President?
The Republican party should cater to the New York wing--that's the ticket. Higher minimum wage? You bet. More affirmative action? You got it. How about some Reparations while we're at it? We're talking about people who think Bloomberg is a conservative and that Hillary is moderate.
Politics as usual. Not a game for the faint of heart. And what was that saying of Harry Truman's, something like if you want a friend in Washington, get a dog?
thanks, bfl
