Now that Roh is backed into a corner, he and his ilks show their true color. They are now unabashed collaborateors to communists in the North. They declare themselves to be tools of Kim Jong-il.
Recently, S. Korean Unification Minister stepped down, who were widely drided as a commie sympathizer or outright spy. Now his successor is undergoing confirmation hearing in S. Korean legislature. He sounds worse than his pinko successor. He refused to criticize Kim Il-sung, only saying that it would be history which will judge him. He also refused to acknowledge that there is widespread torture, oppression, and general human right abuse, saying that there is no "definite" evidence.
This is a regime which may have to be ousted. It could be hatching a plan to draw in opponents to violent clash, which will be used as a nice excuse to forgo next presidential election.
2007 would be a tumultous year in S. Korea.
Are the forces of counter-revolution/preservation ready for the challenge in S. Korea?

Why does our Navy need permission from S. Korea to intercept ships on the high seas. We will just have to intercept board and tow 'em back to Japan or sink 'em.

I would say line is being drawn. Both sides seem to be mobilizing under the surface.
It's time for South Korea to take responsibility for its own defense and for us to pull out. Only then might SK become mature and responsible.
If push comes to shove, it is Hyundai which will take the first hit. Financial sanction would be pretty devastating to S. Korea. That is why Roh Moo-hyun is doggedly pursuing U.S.-S. Korea FDA. It is a carrot which will dissuade U.S. from mounting outright financial offensive to S. Korea.
That makes the case for leaving even stronger.
I say let the world get a taste of defending itself for awhile. We've been spit on and abused enough.
You've got a good point : darfur, iraq, afghanistan, n/s korea, taiwan, georgia, gaza, lebanon...all the flash points in the world. Are we to forever be the WORLD'S COP, the dutch boy with his fingers in an ever increasing number of dike-leaks? SK is a case in point : they have become so accustomed for us to counter the threat that they've forgotten the 1950 korean war which was 3 generations ago. Taiwan is a similar case. Europe is a similar case. They have become so accustomed to the US military guarding them that they assume a cocoon mentality, that they can't even VISUALIZE an enemy army invading their home. As Rodney Dangerfield says : I get no respect! LEAVE...then they'll know....
