Boston Globe: 'Big Demotion' for V.P. Cheney?
NewsBusters.org ^ | 11/18/06 | Warner Todd Huston

Posted on 11/18/2006 8:22:01 AM PST by Mobile Vulgus

Reading the Globe's Nov 18th piece about vice President Cheney, one can palpably feel their fingers being crossed, their wishes being cast into the wishing well, that Cheney is on the outs with this supposed "big demotion" the paper sees for his immediate future.

In short, will Rumsfeld's abrupt dismissal finally diminish Cheney's unprecedented dominance of Bush? Or did the always cunning vice president read the writing on the wall and decide that it was time for his good friend Rumsfeld to go?
And typically, as with every story about the VP, one quotient missing in the analysis is the president himself, prosaically fitting into the the Cheney-as-puppetmaster story line the MSM has created for him. (Though, now they want to cast James Baker in Cheney's puppeteering shoes)

The Globe has even reached for the macabre, saying that the VP, "America's de facto prime minister" has been "eerily missing from public view".

IN THE 10 days since President Bush fired Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, one figure is eerily missing from public view and public accounts of what occurred: Vice President Dick Cheney. As usual, America's de facto prime minister is either literally or metaphorically in an undisclosed location.
Shades of Edgar Allan Poe, there, Globe.

But, then, they always have made Cheney out to be the Uncle Creepy of the Administration, eh?

They then go on to rehash the MSM's conventional "wisdom" that Cheney is out of favor because Rumsfeld has been terminated, assuming that Cheney's ideas on the Iraq war are finished.

Of course, this assumes that Bush has gone to his new nominee for the Secretary of Defense because of the defeat at the polls and as sudden a turn against his past policies -- even as Bush has repeatedly said since the elections that he has no intention of pulling out of Iraq.

What this story assumes is that Bush is so wishy washy that any wind will blow him from his course. It also assumes that Gates will be bringing a pull-out mentality and that he will bring a contrary opinion to the President's.

See, Bush is too stupid to have his OWN policy and be able to control his OWN administration. Right, Globe? He needs a Cheney, gates, or now a Baker to run it all for him, eh?

But, the MSM has decided to ignore the story that Bush was meeting with Gates on november 5th, BEFORE the elections, to sound him out for Rummy's job. It just isn't very sensible to expect that the president is bringing in a guy who will cause an abrupt about face on a policy that the President has made his cornerstone for most of his presidency.

But, that would deny the Bush-is-stupid story line that the MSM propagates, so they certainly won't walk down this road of analysis, you can be sure!

Well, that's one of their several stances. Another is that the President is a brilliant strategist who engineered 9/11 so he count go into Iraq and steal all their oil. Or something like that. (It's hard to tell sometimes--liberals aren't always that clear on things.)

Demotion? How do you "demote" a Vice-President? Mr. Cheney is the best.

The "Globe" and friends are idiots.

I hope the VP decides to resign and go about the rest of his life in peace, rather than serve a public who does not appreciate nor care for our great country.

After the surrender of the American people on Nov 7th, he must be saddened by the step off the cliff America chose, and he must know this is the beginning of the end for us.

At least he will not live to see the USA become Europe.

This trashing of Cheney would be understandable if he were thinking of running for President in 2008. Otherwise it's just an example of paranoia on the part of the Left.

Dick Cheney is a very capable individual. He's the type of heavyweight we should have as a Vice-President. He's worked in the corporate climate and achieved quite a bit due to his abilities.

What the Dems would have, is a person who was elected to office in their mid-twenties and had never held a public sector job. With few exceptions Bill Clinton was that type of individual. Al Gore was a perfect match. And their abilities???

Dick Cheney has been a asset to this nation. He gave up a job which paid in excess of $10 million per year, to become Bush's running mate. The guy has ability, devotion to country and the temperment to take a secondary position.

While I don't agree with Cheney on everything, and in fact disagree with him quite a bit on a few things, he is still a very capable individual. What I disagree with him on, are traits that the left cherishes. For this reason, I think it's almost an aspect of insanity for them to object to him so stridently.

The left dispising him as they do, must be a feather in the cap of Cheney. When people of that level of mentality and moral degeneration dispise you, it's got to say something good about you.

Who cares what the Boston Globe writes????

Vice President Cheney has more class in his little finger than all the people of Mass. will ever have and that includes anyone or anything that publishes in the Boston Globe....

That paper is good for the bottom of bird cages....

Where was Cheney during the '06 election? Anyone? Like I've said for years, he's a disaster to the GOP... Should have been demoted to senior advisor years ago.

Where was Cheney when they were spending money liked they hated the stuff?

As CEO of Haliburton you would of thought he could read a balance sheet.

In praising the VP, you said he showed his stuff running Haliburton. How about Secretary of Defense under Bush 41? He was the youngest White House Chief of Staff (President Ford). Six term Congressman from Wyoming. The list goes on. IMHO, one of the GREAT leaders this country has had. Trashing this man would NOT be understandable at all.

This country is fortunate to have had the services of Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld for so many years.

But no surprise that the liberal press does not agree.

Bush spech from 10 years ago. His delivery was powerful and compelling. Compare it to today's delivery, what gives?

That's the problem, George casts doubt on his own policies with his halting delivery. I wish he wouldn't trash his inner circle. he needs them.

The Globe is nucking futs. Cheney has NOT been "eerily missing from public view".

First of all he went to South Dakota for his annual hunting trip, after first voting in Wyoming on election day - which by my calender was only eleven day ago. And last Wednesday, the 15th, he spoke at a Federalist Society function.

So missing from "public view" my patoot.

(The Globe has to stop putting LSD in their Coffee Room sugar bowl)
