As an evangelical Christian, I understand the sentiment here, but we're not electing the next Billy Graham, or president of Wheaton College. I could support Romney.

In point of fact, it's likely that there will be no evangelical Christian among the GOP frontrunners in '08, so why dump on Romney?

He belongs to a group of people that believe they will become gods. He has taken an oath to follow his Prophet in everything, and use everything within his power to "further the gospel of the Church." (Not the gospel of Christ - - but the gospel of his Church) To me that is a BIG problem.

I don't believe the poster was necessarily "dumping" on Gov. Romney, they were predicting the tone of the would-be campaign. They said before JFK ran, America would never elect a Catholic to the Oval Office. A dead person voting here, buying a vote or two there, anythings possible.

M2C,
The simple answer to your question is...

... while you would vote for a mitt, huge numbers will not and votes among evangelicals will be suppressed. For that reason alone, it is not wise.

At this point I can't support Romney because he's played both ends of the abortion subject. He talks prolife but so far as I've seen isn't in practice.

Don't care he's says he's a Mormon. What's he like? I cared Kerry claimed to be Catholic because he's so obviously outside the Church it makes my head spin.

Also against Romney is that he was electable in MA, the state of Kennedy, Kerry and Dukakis!

Just my opinion: I won't support Romney in the primaries. If he is selected as the Republican candidate, he of course will have my vote against whoever (or in the case of Hillary, the Beast, whatever) the Dems put up.

Check out the Massachusetts Universal Healthcare plan that Romney endorsed and signed into law. If he has that same philosophy as President, we are in for socialized medicine during his term, especially if the Dems retain control of Congress (and right now, many more Republican Senate seats are up for vote in 08 than Dems. So, sadly, arithmetic favors the Dems picking up some Senate seats at this time).
