CA: Republicans: What Went Wrong? (internal audit being conducted)
LA Times ^ | 11/21/06 | Robert Salladay

Posted on 11/21/2006 6:53:39 PM PST by NormsRevenge

The California Republican Party is conducting an internal audit over why its unprecedented $20 million get-out-the-vote effort didn't produce wins for their candidates on election day. Only Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and insurance commissioner Steve Poizner captured statewide offices for the GOP, which also failed to pick up any new seats in the Legislature. One Republican incumbent, Secretary of State Bruce McPherson, was unseated.

Some conservative Republicans are demanding answers from the party. State Board of Equalization member Bill Leonard, who was reelected to his regional seat by a large margin, already has asked for the audit of the statewide effort. He has heard "rumors" that the GOP telephoned voters using scripts written by Schwarzenegger's team that only mentioned Schwarzenegger, that there was "mischief" with literature distributed on door-hangers in neighborhoods, and that the Republican Party may have called non-Republicans to encourage them to vote.

"... what is needed is full disclosure by the CRP leadership, a detailed political audit of how this campaign was waged. The party members, donors and volunteers deserve to know the full truth and the actual numbers."

--snip--

Mike Spence, another Republican activist, said other problems emerged during the get-out-the-vote effort: the GOP sparsely canvassed precincts in eastern Los Angeles County and an outreach program to churches "died wandering in the desert." He also has called for an audit. Spence said the conservative ideology of some Republicans, such as lieutenant governor candidate Tom McClintock, can't account for their losses. If so, he said, why did a moderate like McPherson not benefit from the get-out-the-vote message that swept Schwarzenegger to victory in a landslide?

California GOP chairman Duf Sundheim said he thinks the $20 million effort proved effective, particularly in early voting by mail. ...

Gee...an "internal audit" probably to the tune of hundreds of thousands of dollars to find out why the GOP lost little battles in the most liberal state in America.

How moronic. As for Ahhhnald...guy hardly doesn't even qualify as half a conservative and he had no real competition. "VHAT? I WIN CALEEFORNIA AND THEY DON'T?? LET'S THROW SOME MONEY AT WHY THEY DID NOT."

Geeeze...

More proof that Duf is incompetent.

It was effective for getting ONLY Arnold elected... and getting Prop 90 defeated and the Bonds passed. Thanks for nuttin' Duf.

The article also makes the point that previous articles made as well, conservatives didn't bother to turn out and now they wonder what happened.

It quotes numbers, in heavily Dem Alamed county the turnout was 61.2%, while in heavily Republican Orange and San Bernardino counties it was 43%. Huge difference.

The so-called conservatives, once again, defeated themselves, gave victory to the Democrats, by staying home, instead of getting out and voting.

It also mentions what we already know, that there are 42.5% Dems and only 34.3% Republican registered voters in CA -- the only way the Republicans can win, is if they have a significantly higher turnout, instead of a significantly lower one.

But the conservatives decided to stay at home and sulk, handing Congress and CA statewide offices to the Dems. That'll show the Republicans.

Rigged, electronic votes ... across the board ... across the nation.

Here's a clue.
Many of the voters in CA are either friends, relatives or co-workers
of illegals.

The only Republican they'll vote for is one that at least
is very soft on illegal immigration.

But most of the time, they will prefer "the real deal" in terms
of a candidate that likes more-than-equal rights for illegals plus
a whole raft of liberal programs.
Hence, voting Republican won't even cross their minds.

And in CA, "illegal immigrant" doesn't automatically mean somebody
from Mexico or points south.
Occassionally you'll hear of a Canadian, an Irishman or a European
that's about to be deported due to illegal immigrant status.

The money was spent ONLY for Arnold, I was told. Nothing went to other candidates. They gutted the GOTV precinct walking, at least in my area, and replaced it with a razz-matazz mutliple-phone-calls snazzy computer program that ANNOYED voters and no one would work the phone banks. And replaced the volunteers with paid young computer hot-shots. Other than that ....

"The governor raised more money than any other candidate for GOTV and other party activities," he said. Sundheim estimated that "50 to 70 percent of the money we raised came from the governor."

Really, FO? Where does it say that?

Turnout in some important Republican counties was lower than in Democratic areas. A look at the most recent statistics, for example, shows Democrat-heavy Alameda County had a 61.2% turnout among all voters, while only 49.7% showed up in Republican-leaning Orange County. San Bernardino County, which leans Republican as well, showed a 43% turnout.
It says Republican counties, and doesn't mention conservatives. You "moderates" never miss an opportunity to bash conservatives, do ya? Carry On!

By the way, what does it really mean? It says that the Arnie-managed GOTV efforts that Duf calls "effective" were pathetic when compared to the Democrats. Of course, Arnold courting the liberals in black churches with more socialist giveaways and touting big goverment borrowing for inner-city rail and farmworker housing did wonders to motivate Republicans to the polls, right? Arnold met his objectives: Get reelected, get all of the big-spending Bonds passed, and defeat Prop 90. What a guy!

I see this as the elephant in the room. Few, it seems, want to seriously discuss election fraud. On election night, and the day(s) following, I was continually amazed at how liberal democrat presincts ALWAYS reported late and miraculously made up the votes needed for narrow victories time after time.

I am not convinced that the ongoing democrat election strategy is to delay as long as necessary in close elections and provide the "necessary" votes in the 11th hour of reporting. This was obvious in the Florida 2000 Presidential election, and it's been repeated over and over; up to, and including, 2006.

On the surface it would appear that the FairOpinion account has violated their own first rule.

1) Never, ever allow the discussion to degenerate to the point were facts are discussed. Just as you are master of the environment under the bridge, they are master of the facts.

But the account hasn't, since the quote contains no facts, only speculation conjured under the bridge

Not only did it include no facts, it wasn't a quote at all and totally mischaracterized what was written.

From another article:

"Steve Poizner is the de facto nominee for governor in 2010 by virtue of being a moderate, his vast personal wealth and the fact that he is a statewide office holder."

http://www.capitolweekly.net/news/article.html?article_id=1090

Looks like you are slipping, you haven't started to bash Poizner yet, to help Villaraigosa become CA gov in 2010.

Charge: the GOP telephoned voters using scripts written by Schwarzenegger's team that only mentioned Schwarzenegger,

CaGOP response: The governor raised more money than any other candidate for GOTV and other party activities,

A modern day version of "They are my marbles and we'll play any game I say"

Just ask the GOP in NY, they already know the answer to this. They have been failing to win for a lot longer than the GOP in CA. CA became a socialist state much later than NY did and the GOP is in the exact same situation. In NY, they factionalized into a Republican Party and a Conservative Party - who often fight over who to vote for. And in the meantime, the Dems all line up together after the primary. Of course, the Dems benefit from a huge registration margin.

California is no longer a conservative state and a real conservative is no longer going to win statewide unless the office is a mystery to the public or the Dem candidate exposes himself prematurely as a totally corrupt fraud. Local candidates can be conservative and win if GOTV efforts are created to ID voters and get those voters out just we do in FL, OH or MO. But on a larger stage, we are far too outnumbers numerically, financially and mediawise to have another Reagan show up and save the state.

Reagan could not get elected in CA today, in 2004, in 2002 or in 2000. Its not going to happen again barring some total freak occurence (like the Dem candidate dies in Oct). Once we get over the idea that there is going to be some ideologically pure candidate for us to vote for for any of the statewide offices, the faster we start getting our sh@t together and developing platforms that we can get a majority opinion on in the GOP and in the state. When you have a state where a majority want 12 yr olds to have abortions without their parents knowledge, what do we really expect to get from the rest of the sheep out there?

The link and quote refutes nothing I posted, FO. Nice try.
Poizner didn't need the GOTV effort.
He spent 11 million on his own advertising to buy the office, outspending his unpopular rival, Cruz Bustamante, by 8 times!

Do you think Poizner is a good gubernatorial candidate for 2010?
The guy who wouldn't support Bush and donated to Al Gore?
That's quite telling, FO. Quite telling, indeed.
