A panel of 25 Conservative rabbis is meeting next week in New York to discuss whether homosexual sex is permitted under Jewish law. Leviticus is extremely specific about this crime.

Newsmax is Catholic? When did that happen?
Or are you just anti-Catholic? Any stick to beat a dog, I guess.
How typically bigoted.

Yes. With all of its crypto-Nazi crap from Buchanan, Novak and Roberts, Newsmax sometimes looks much like WorldNutDaily, although WND presents more secular and Catholic Jewish writers to make Judaism look bad.

Why not go all the way and be a Unitarian. Then you can believe in everything. Or nothing. Simultaneously.

true. only Torah-observant Jews have survived more than 3 generations.
FYI to all Freepers. CONSERVATIVE "RABBI's" ARE NOT RABBI"S AT ALL AND DO NOT REPRESENT JUDIASM AT ALL.

Moderates are just liberals without values. They go along with whatever is trendy and politically correct.

Reform Judaism already ignores the Torah. At least they do not claim it is divine. The Conservatives consider both the Written and Oral Torah have to be updated to keep in touch with modern conditions. But Judaism has never considered idolatry, homosexuality or bestiality to be moral in ANY age. If the Conservatives break with Jewish teaching by endorsing sexual immorality, they will cut themselves off from the Jewish People. That would be a tragedy.

it's not that we are in violation, it is that we are presently unable to fulfill many mitzvos in the Torah.
We still fulfill several hundred of the 613. One day, we will again fulfill the rest.
Torah Jews are still obligated to intensely study the laws of sacrifices and the Sanhedrin etc.... even though it has benn almost 2000 years. many tractate'so of the Talmud deal with these.
certain mitzvos are only applicable in the land of Israel, so some mitzvos and laws have become relevant again since the early 20th century when Jews started repopulating Israel again. Although the commandments have always been required here, they were barely applicable since so few Jews lived here for 2000 years.

A: Someone who rings your doorbell for no apparent reason.

If you look through the Torah, it was always clear God allowed Jews the option of committing sacrifices on His behalf. That's all it was. Judaism is more concerned with ethical conduct than with fulfilling ritual norms. The prophetic literature doesn't deal by and large with ritual violations. For the Prophets, the sin of the Jews lay in their failure to act justly in their dealings with their fellow men and by extension with God. The task of Man on this earth is to be the best person he can be. Then and only then will he will have a loving relationship with His Creator.

The funniest thing ever said about the Unitarians was, believe it or not, by Garrison Keillor.
He was detailing the ancient history of Lake Wobegone and mentioned that the first non-natives to visit the area were Unitarian missionaries who attempted to convert the indians through interpretive dance.

Ritual is a means to an end. They aid Jews in becoming the type of holy people God meant them to be. But ritual in and of itself is not the essence of Judaism. The essence of Judaism is to spread ethical monotheism. Man is asked to love his neighbor as he loves himself and as He loves God. A pagan asked this of Rabbi Hillel when he said: Teach me the Torah standing on one foot. And in that encounter is the lesson the word of God is not just for the Jews; its for all Mankind to be holy in conduct as well.

how do the Jews get around all the sacrificial instructions in the Torah? After the Temple was destroyed, the physical sacrifices were substituted by the order of prayer, repentance and giving of charity. Every prayer is concluded with a plea to rebuild the Temple so that the commanded sacrifices can be resumed.
