Put a fork in us, we're done.
He also just told Senator Bird (blech) that the President does not have the right to go into Syria or Iran, and that Bob Gates has no intention of going into Syria, and we shouldn't go into Iran either. Oh he also stated that Iran cannot militarily attack us.
With this nom, GW has brought to reality what the Dims have long wanted. Defeat.
God have mercy on us all.

He's right, we are not winning - because Washington won't let our military win.Gates is right. We're not winning, but our military is doing the best they possibly can under the ridiculous position in which they have been placed. If Bush finally unleashes the full might of the military against the terrorists in Iraq, then we will be winning.

We are not winning. We won the war but we haven't won the battle. We need a new strategy, not to lose, not to fight this thing to a draw, we need a winning strategy.

We will win the war when we take the handcuffs off our troops and let them do WHAT EVER THEY NEED TO TO WIN. Perhaps this guy sees it like that. We aren't "Winning" but we aren't losing either. Take the restrictions off the Forces and LET them do their JOBS! Then we will win!

Let me know when they start drafting 54 year olds to fight in Iraq.

The senator asked him one question, as if he was cross-examining Gates. He answered it. Read the whole article, Gates is not throwing in the towel.

Well, he is also virtually taking military action OFF THE TABLE in respect to Iran and Syria. HE SIMPLY SEEMS TO BE A PACIFIST! How can he say this without all the information? Not a good move. Pres should retract his nomination, period! I missed much of his testimony, but it as reported above, he is likely to recommend withdrawal from Iraq also. Mr President, dump him!

He SHOULD have said.....
We're not winning here at home.
Thanks democrats.
To: W04Man
Tell me this is some sort of strategery...please! Tell me he's going to pull the nomination and go with another Rummy.
To: pnh102
Exactly! Shame on Washington - both the White House and Congress!

I've deducted this through military reports, media reports, free republic, the recent election, the talk of pulling out, the PC war we are fighting....any other questions?
To: RobinWWJD
Bob Gates will not be the one making the decisions about attacks on Iran or Syria. He is not the President.

Read the article...How about watching this live as I am. This guy needs to go back to A&M ...
More and more the US is turning into that frog in the pot of water that has the fire under it. Are you feeling warm yet? I am.
To: VRWCmember
I wouldn't characterize the current situation as "winning".
I guess I have entered the gray area of nuance. Please enlighten me on how "not winning" does not equal losing. Is there some squishy middle? IMO, I would say that we are succeeding, but we have not completed the mission. What is the mission? An Iraq that can stand on its own two feet.
You people here on FR that are so "short-term solution oriented" need to look back at history. Missions such as this one take years if not decades.
Another big part of this that MANY of you are missing is the mental aspect. If the troops in the field, both Americans and Iraqis, keep hearing American figure heads say that we are not winning, we will NOT win. For example, if you are a coach, you do not tell your team in the middle of a game, "Hey losers, you are losing. In fact you have lost. You may as well quit the game." To continue to say that they are winning is as much inspiration as anything else. The game is not over and to announce in the middle of it that you have lost is the WORST thing to do.

If that is what he said, it is a pretty sad situation indeed. Next step will be the terrorists rushing into schools, homes, and shopping malls.
To: Blue Turtle
Go long or go home. We are going home, another war where the soldiers won but we lost.

This war,or any war for that matter, "IS'NT A PRIMETIME MINI-SERIES" those clowns in Washington, along with all the assorted armchair generals out there in TV Land, need to quite their bellyaching, and get serious about WINNING.
that means REALLY SUPPORT THE TROOPS, and quite worrying about what the ENEMY thinks. GEEEEZ!!!
