What's driving Obama-mania?
CS Monitor ^ | Dec 11, 2006 | Gail Russell Chaddock

MANCHESTER, N.H. – With standing room crowds chanting for the star to show, Sunday's Democratic fundraiser could have been a rock concert. But it was only Sen. Barack Obama's first visit to the nation's first primary state.

If Senator Obama should jump into the Democratic presidential primary, where he is now ranked just behind Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York in recent polls, Democrats in the land of retail politics wonder if there's a living room big enough to hold the throngs who'd come to hear him.

"Right now, he's a rock star. Getting 1,500 people out on a Sunday afternoon ... says something different is going on here," says Jim Craig, former Democratic leader in the New Hampshire House.

So what's driving Obama-mania?

It isn't a single set of issues such as the war or the economy. Rather, the attraction seems to be a mix of Obama's own compelling personal narrative and many voters' desire for a less caustic brand of politics.

"It's the sense that you're in the presence of someone who is touched with the gift of grace," says Ross Baker, a political scientist at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, N.J. Obama, Illinois' junior senator, exemplifies the hope that there's some way to triumph over the intense polarization of American politics, he adds.

A barely known state lawmaker and community organizer in Chicago, Obama shot to superstar status after an electrifying speech at the 2004 Democratic national convention in Boston. With a father from Kenya and a mother from Kansas, he embodies two racial cultures deeply at odds in American history.

I read that line, said "Barf!" out loud, decided I couldn't read another word, and scrolled down to your image. LOL!

Yes. Reuters and Bryan Snyder are definitely two drivers of "Obama-mania."

I hope that the liberal media's early campaign for Obama will be less successful than their campaigns for Colin Powell.

Rice is the media darling as well, right? Oh wait...

If I ever attempted to publish such racist and outright offensive trash like that, I'd probably be charged with a hate crime

In June 2005, Obama and Rezko purchased adjoining parcels in Kenwood. The state's junior senator paid $1.65 million for a Georgian revival mansion,

hmmmm ... I wonder where a 2 yr Jr. Senator and Charity Worker gets that kind of money to afford a $1.65 million mansion??

Bill ORielly agrees with you.

he called Obama the new Howard Dean.

Actually we could be closer than we think....

Doesn't he have something about a 'muslim' background?

Which then makes the line from the article about 'grace' even more unnerving.

This guy is a candidate who will be used to make Hitlery look centrist and moderate. He'll be wildly popular and then flame out once his opinions are known. Then Hitlery scoops up all the Dem delegates and the nomination.

I suspect the Xlintons and libmedia are behind the Obamamania. And they put Vilsack of Iowa up to running so Hitlery wouldn't have to face Iowa caucus-goers next year.

He is an intelligent person. He seems sincere. He speaks well. He is not a puffed up ego like most politicians. He has a VERY GOOD chance of being elected!
He is not the Hil. The Hil has no personality. She is intelligent but mean, calculating and inflexible. She has an over-inflated ego. If the dems have to choose between Obama and the Hil, it's Obama by a landslide.

Will the Republicans nominate someone equally electable? The public is sick of the old-style imperial politicians (Clinton and Bush). Who do the Republicans have? And if they find someone, the dems will start up their slime machine.
Start looking now.

Funny you should ask that. We down here at the Tungamorekee Monkey Research Center in Alabama conducted an experiment exactly along those lines.

It's 8 minutes and 52 seconds.

Funnily enough, "James Earl Carter" came in at 3 minutes and 5 seconds, after which the monkey resonsible shat all over the keyboard.

What's driving Obama-mania?

I think it's a plan to get him out in the national spotlight and more familiar to the masses across all states so that when he doesn't get the democratic candidacy for the POTUS, Hitlery can enlist him as VP to capture the female and minority voting block. It scares the bejeebers out of me. And before anyone says there's no way it'll happen, all I can say is go back and review the November election results.

That is so outrageously wrong that I can't believe you said it.

Well, I wasn't including Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, or Clarence Thomas because they're not on TV that much. Know of any other black men on TV that speak proper English? I doubt it because the MSM won't put them on....not good for the stereotypical "ignorant and oppressed" image that they're steadily pushing down the throats of african-americans (i.e., blacks, i.e., colored-people).
