Comes now former President Jimmy Carter with a new best-selling book, Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid. It's not clear what he means by using the loaded word apartheid, since the book makes no attempt to explain it, but the only reasonable interpretation is that Carter is comparing Israel to the former white racist government of South Africa. That is a foolish and unfair comparison, unworthy of the man who wonand deservedthe Nobel Peace Prize for bringing Israel and Egypt together in the Camp David Accords, and who has lent such luster to the imaginary office of former president.
I mean, what's the parallel? Apartheid had a philosophical component and a practical one, both quite bizarre. Philosophically, it was committed to the notion of racial superiority. No doubt many Israelis have racist attitudes toward Arabs, but the official philosophy of the government is quite the opposite, and sincere efforts are made to, for example, instill humanitarian and egalitarian attitudes in children. That is not true, of course, in Arab countries, where hatred of Jews is a standard part of the curriculum.

Jimmah Carter: Georgia's revenge for Sherman's march to Atlanta.
Could there have been a worse president in the 20th Century?
Iran (the Shah) was our greatest ally in the mideast and this spineless coward pulled the rug out from under the Shah to appease a couple of 14th Century mullahs. The results in the mideast we are paying for today.
Didn't the Dems think he was a statesman for about 5 minutes (when it was convenient)?
Apartheid is the new catch word. I just overheard someone on a airplane telling their companion (or seatmate) about American Apartheid.
Did anyone see Jimmy on Leno last night? He was saying that the Arabs only took one Israeli soldier (he held up one finger to emphasize the point) in exchange for 300 children (some as young as 12) and women but those mean Israelis wouldn't give in. I don't know enough about it to refute it, but it smacks of total anti-Israel BS to me. Also, I noticed that he's not a very articulate speaker. He was trying to crack some lame jokes--some about he and Roslyn getting it on. Jay Leno made a comment about him being such a nice man--but I look at him and all I see is hate and stupidity.
When they gave him a Nobel, they were hoping he would be satisfied and hold his peace.
Homegrown Islamofascist terrorists might well be only a second tier threat compared to Jimmy's friends.
Wow. It's gotta be bad for the syncophants to spit it out.
I darn sure don't claim him, nor do most of the GA natives I run across. He was foisted upon us by the Left and the media, and was probably the reason the South turned Republican starting in 1980.
Full disclaimer: I moved here in '77, Jimmuh was already in Washington.
I've pinged a better authority on the matter for her comments.
Carter was a fool in office, and he's still a fool now.
God bless Jeane Kirkpatrick for having the moral courage to walk out of his NSC staff.
Did anyone else see the lying traitor on Leno last night?
Ugh...oh boy.
Damn. Kinsley slams Carter with biting cynicism.
It's sad -- I've said this before: Carter was far from a good President, but he could have redeemed himself in his twilight years, as did Nixon, or just fade from view, as did Ford. Instead, all he does is whine and spout idiocies. Unfortunately, our media continues to keep him in the public eye. He won't fade away until people start ignoring him.
Not to mention his love-in with Tavis Smiley.
Kinsley should realize that many of his progressive friends openly advocate the notion that Israel is an apartheid state. And they would like to see it disappear.
"Didn't the Dems think he was a statesman for about 5 minutes (when it was convenient)?"
When Clinton let him deal with North Korea and Haiti. Carter has established himself as a loose cannon, so that won't happen again.
