Rep. Jones asks for investigation into Nifong's conduct (Duke Rape Case)

Rep. Walter Jones, of North Carolina's 3rd District, has written to the U.S. Department of Justice calling for an investigation of the prosecution of the three indicted Duke men's lacrosse players.

In a letter to U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, the congressman asked the Attorney General to review whether Nifong has committed prosecutorial misconduct.

"Many of my constituents have expressed concern to me [regarding] prosecutorial misconduct," Jones wrote in the letter. "I urge you to look into these matters to ensure that Mr. Nifong's actions have not illegally denied the accused of their civil rights as American citizens."

It will be an OJ miscarriage of justice if Nifong is not arrested and prosecuted for his crimes. Too many lawyers forget justice in the pursuit of their careers, but Nifong is certainly a poster boy for them all.

Robin Hayes understands the importance of the war and who in NC wants to cut and run:

In Washington, the congressman's shift has been greeted with less enthusiasm. "Lately, we've been hearing a lot from the ‘blame America first' crowd," says Rep. Robin Hayes (R.-N.C.), without naming Jones specifically. "It is wrong to cut and run on the Iraqi people." The pro-war writer Chris- topher Hitchens called Jones a "moral and political cretin." And when President Bush came to Fayetteville, North Carolina, to give a speech on Iraq last June, Jones was not invited.

"I urge you to look into these matters to ensure that Mr. Nifong's actions have not illegally denied the accused of their civil rights as American citizens." But...but..but... they're WHITE MALES, they don't HAVE any civil rights!
BINGO! Remember the Black Panthers got involved in this then just "disappeared"? I personally that they are extorting Nifong to get what THEY want, guilt or innocense doesn't matter to them.

I agree. This story needs to be kept alive and not be diverted to Iraq and other unrelated topics. There is not even evidence that a rape was committed, much less that those three should be charged.

intent to prevent or hinder his enjoyment of any right or privilege so secured—

innocent unless proven guilty comes immediately to mind.....

Jones' lifetime voting record from the ACU is a solid 93, though it has hovered around 80 over the last two years. His ratings from other conservative organizations like the NRA, Eagle Forum, and Family Research Council are stellar. He's also been good on immigration. Other than calling for a pull-out of Iraq, I haven't heard of him taking any positions that can easily be characterized as being of the Left.

So why would he switch parties? Is Iraq enough alone? Or is it a desire to be back in the majority?

His desire to be in the majority.

Don't get me wrong, he does some good things but he was among the first to want a timeline for troop removal which is the central issue of the day. Keep in mind that being a Dem in his district does not mean you are Pelosi-like. It simply means you want to be a part of the majority party in NC and now the majority party on the Federal level.

I am glad someone is going after Nifong but I wish it was someone other than Jones. He will say something about this that will backfire - that is his history.

"before the prosecution is through"

That's the problem. While nifong farts around and has no intention of ever prosecuting because he has no evidence, he is destroying the lives of these young men.

He knows that. I suspect the real reason for Nifong's action is his political advantage and a lingering resentment of the class of rich white boys the Duke students represent. He knows the local electorate will not hold it against him if he roasts the college pukes.

His father was a Democrat. He must think the current Iraq policy is a failure. I would be shocked if he returned to the Democrats, but people do like to be popular.

Exactly. Who else in government other than Rep. Jones is trying to stop Nifong? The corruption in Durham is overwhelming.

Well, I must say that it does lessen the sting a bit when Democrats like Heath Shuler are elected...assuming they turns out to be the conservatives they run as. If Jones did switch, and continued voting the same way, then it wouldn't be so bad so long as the Democrats enjoy as big a majority as they do now.

I'd rather he not, though, just so we're clear.

BREAKING NEWS on WRAL: According to a defense motion filed Wednesday, a private laboratory hired by the prosecution did not find DNA evidence on an alleged rape victim from any member of the Duke lacrosse team. The woman alleged that she was raped by three members of the team at an off-campus party in March.

Boy friend's DNA wasn't in her either....AND she testified that she had not had sex prior to the "rapes" for a WEEK.

Pubic hair not from LAX team member.

Multiple male sources in/on Crystal, not LAX players.

Nifong is in deep chit.

Evidence withheld from defense.

So, there can be no more doubt about what Crystal does for a living and what she was doing at her "appointments" prior to the party.

Anyone who lets this go on any further than Friday is crazy, imo.
