Shoot, I got two calls from President Bill Clinton asking me to vote for Ciro. He even came to San Antonio.

Nope, they shut their wallets and stayed at home.

Which will simply push the GOP further towards the center, since it once again affirms that the too much of the base is fickle and the only way to win right now is by drawing in independents.

Stay at home, forfeit your voice.

Rodriguez is so liberal that the DNC ran him in the primary (before the SCOTUS redrew the district) against "moderate" democrat Henry Cuellar. Honestly, in a place like Laredo, running as a "moderate" Democrat basically means "Republican". Not even Jesus Christ would be elected if he ran as a Republican in Laredo.

...and yet Bonilla is the incumbant Republican.

> AP just called it for Rodriguez. Bonilla to concede shortly.

Must be turnout out that did Henry in because he has always carried the counties in play in the past. I'm not sure I'd blame restructuring.

I'd also question how many of these voters are REALLY American citizens vs. Latino's with forged naturalization papers or were born to immigrants/illegals and errorously declared citizens.

He was the incumbent in the old district which was all of NW San Antonio & Hill Country. Now CD 23 stretches from San Antonio’s far Northwest Side to the Hispanic South Side and west to El Paso & includes nearly 700 miles of the Texas-Mexico border.

Jeff, you don't have to read the rest of this,it's not directed at you. I'm just hopping mad right now & need to rant to no one in particular & I'm too tired to start another reply to myself.

I know freepers don't like to hear this, but a lot of the really over-the-top anti-illegal rhetoric is just killing R candidates around here."Conservatives" aren't voting because they've been told 24/7 for 2 years by bogus trojan-horse 'conservatives' like Michael Savage working on behalf of dems that this president & his party don't care about 'borders, language & culture'& they'd be better off with dems than voting for hispanic-loving rinos. And they bought it!

And the moderates whom we NEED to win elections & achieve majorities to get legislation passed, plus lots & lots of (legal) hispanics are turned off by all the Tancredo-type garbage from Republicans, even though most of those hispanics are social conservatives! This is a fact. Republicans cannot win going down this road and conservatives are going to have to settle in for the long-haul out in the wilderness with no voice if they wish to continue to subjugate all other considerations to this issue.

I guarantee you that the democrats are all high-fiving each other because so many 'conservatives' fell for their calculated divide & conquer strategy & were so very obliging to their candidates this election. None of these left-wing democrats could have won these races without the willing assistance of so many "CINO"s, who'd actually rather have Nancy Pelosi as speaker, Silvestre Reyes as intelligence chairman & Hillary Clinton as President than get off of their rears and vote for a party that Lou Dobbs (Ted Turner's lackey, lol) says is too "liberal" like the freeper upthread just did.

Dittos, baby.Right on the money. Too many "conservatives in name only" who bail at the drop of a hat & leave the rest of us stuck with loony left-wing dem representatives because the 'rinos' aren't conservative enough for their royal highnesses. Well, damn. Just screw 'em.

if it doesn't play out as you've described, its president hillary clinton for sure.

our base is just too fickle - look at the threads regarding Mary Cheney's baby - yet another litmus test our candidates must meet - demonizing lesbians who want to have their OWN baby.

make this same post elsewhere, its a good one. you'll be attacked, don't back down.

Gotcha. Thanks for that clarification.

"Now we lose another effective (South)West Texan representative"

And that is really sad too. I always thought he would be a Governor or Senator before he called a career. It looks like those chances are null now.

You are exactly right. Putting Tom Tancredo and Pat Buchanan on the TV to speak out against Illegal immigration as GOP spokesmen (yes I know Pat is not offcially a Republican, but the meida labels him as one) is killing the GOP with voters in the Hispanic communitty that probably subscribe to alot of our agenda. Stuff like strong miltary, faith, guns, pro life, anit Gay rights, etc., etc.

Yep, as long as Tom Tancredo and his racist minions are portrayed as the face of the GOP, it is going to keep pushing more and more Hispanics, even the majority who favor border control, into the arms of the Democrats.

That's exactly right. You don't know how many Hispanics down here despise illegal immigration because it takes up our local tax dollars too like school taxes for one. BUT, because the Rats and the Media have done a wonderful job attaching the racist or anit Hispanic label on Republicans, we are going to start losing elections we should win here in Texas. Unless people like Tancredo are given a giant cup of Shut Up, he and a few others are going to doom the conservatives in this country.

It's a fact that some on here don't want to hear or even consider.

Amen. These people need to grow up. Among other things, they need to be more patriotic and less self-centered. There is a difference.

So, how do you address illegal immigration SERIOUSLY without being called names? I don't think it's possible, and I don't think you're being fair to Mr. Tancredo.
