One of the remarkable things about the war in Iraq is that while American misconduct, such as that at Abu Ghraib, and even alleged American misconduct, such as that at Haditha, have received tremendous amounts of press attention, American heroism has been given short shrift. But the dispatch from the Defense Department, datelined "Forward Operating Base Loyalty, Iraq" about a 19-year-old Army private from Knox, Pa., named Ross McGinnis, who liked poker and loud music and who saved the lives of four of his fellow soldiers by falling on a grenade in Baghdad on December 4 speaks to the remarkable bravery of American soldiers.
The dispatch quoted his platoon sergeant, Cedric Thomas, saying, "He gave his life to save his crew and his platoon sergeant. He's a hero." The dispatch says that McGinnis's action demonstrates that the "MySpace generation" often criticized as self-absorbed "has what it takes to carry on the Army's proud traditions." The Silver Star will be awarded posthumously. We happened to read about Private McGinnis's heroism after watching an interview that Sean Hannity conducted with American soldiers in Mosul in which one of the soldiers said that when they hear American politicians say America can't win this war, what they perceive those politicians to be saying is that they lack confidence in our own GIs. What a rebuke to defeatism is the heroism of the American GI.

Ross McGinnis, rest in peace. We have lost a great deal.

AMEN
Private McGinnis's unselfish heroism earned him a SILVER Star posthumously. Compare that to John Kerry's SILVER STAR for shooting a wounded fleeing VC in the back. May God Bless the soul of Private McGinnis.
The heroism and patriotism of these soldiers spotlight the cowardice of 99% of the members of Congress. Those serving in Congress today and this next January are truly unworthy. Many, in fact, should be called traitors. You know their names.
Why on earth someone allowed cameras inside a military prison is beyond me... We'll have to live with the Abu Ghraib reference proably forever.
God almighty! I work at a university and you should see the tatooed clowns with hardware on their faces running around here. Real immature and smart-a&^creeps who presume they have it all figured out. This guy makes a hundred of them.
John Kerry's SILVER STAR for shooting a wounded fleeing VC in the back.

Not the mention the three purple hearts he put himself in for, and all accomplished in three months.
Isn't this almost exactly what Cpl. Dunham recieved the MOH for? Why not at least a DSC for this troop?

That's a classic but it starts before that in high school.
The girls dress like they are going to make music videos and the guys wear pajamas.
I call them 'clown clothes'. So here at the University, what's the point of educating your self if you look and behave like a half-wit or a hooker?
A Silver Star is a very high award indeed, but in this case, it just isn't enough. There is certainly ample precedent for awarding the Medal of Honor for this type of sacrifice. Why is it not being considered here?
While I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiments and specifics of the previous posts, I suggest that we refrain from mentioning the name of the disgraceful scumbag senator from Massachussets on the same page as heroes like PFC Ross McGinnis. Maybe we could simply refer to him as that POS (D-Cambodia).
john Kerry POS (D-Cambodia).

I really like the sound of that.
Agreed...this definitely deserves the MOH. Several people have been put up for the MOH in Iraq for this very act. The most recent I've heard of is a SEAL in Ramadi.
Dang blurry screen.
I had the same thought.
I agree, we know who they are...
But this "cut and run" mentality, from this "failure" and "lie"...To me that's spitting in the face of the sacrifices (all over again) that have, and will be made, before all is said and done...
You know I heard one time that war is a failure of diplomacy and politics...
When those same people who failed politically and diplomatically, dictate terms to force us to fail militarily, making the sacrifices on the field of battle moot...
I am tired of that template of failure being applied at that level of our government...
I'm not so sure it is inappropriate to wish that those people be tossed onto the streets from where they are now...And I'm sure we don't need to be very nice about it...
enough is enough...
