No one should move to California, I have felt that way since the day I arrived here.

Such a beautiful state. It's a shame that liberals ruined it.

It seems that liberals move to all of the nice places then ruin them - Key West, slowly but surely Colorado (Boulder, certainly), etc. Then again, there are the plain just nasty places that liberals have ruined as well - N.Y City.

"It's not a sign of this state becoming the next Detroit, but if it is, in fact, a sign of the difficulty of buying a house in California, or congestion -- as we've heard -- then we should be concerned," said Hans Johnson, a demographer with the nonprofit Public Policy Institute of California.

I was at a real estate seminar regarding investing in the D.C> area a few years back. The economist who did a very good study was saying the people (companies first) will start fleeing if something isn't done about the traffic congestion within the next 109 years. Our ultra-liberal county council keeps saying "take the bus."

My plan is working, Superman... Nancy gets to be Speaker, then Her Ankleship Prez...

Then Osama goes medieval on the Left Coast!

Then I clean up selling all that Nevada and Arizona beach front property!

I hate to say this, Lex, but I kinda like your plan...

California is overpriced. Housing costs are the biggest reason people are packing up and leaving. The high cost of living too, is an incentive to move to where they'll get more for their dollars.

This trend is verified by the U-Haul index, the difference in the price paid for a rental truck leaving California versus what you pay to drive a U-Haul to California. It's a barometer of supply and demand as well as incentives and penalties necessary to keep a supply of trucks available at all locations.

San Francisco to Las Vegas $757
Las Vegas to San Francisco $313

San Francisco to Portland $1483
Portland to San Francisco $199

San Francisco to Seattle $1648
Seattle to San Francisco $353

San Francisco to Phoenix $1669
Phoenix to San Francisco $131

San Francisco to Albuquerque $2277
Albuquerque to San Francisco $716

San Francisco to Boise $2557
Boise to San Francisco $199

The little educator from Berkeley just HAD to take a cheap shot at Detroit. Hey, we're in bad shape but we're not as bad as Detroit! What a jerk.

Both my husband and I were born in California (we are 41 and 43) and lived there until last year. Our 3 children were born in CA (20, 15 and 6).

However, I was ready to be a stay at home mom and there was no way - even with 2 salaries - that we could buy a house.

So, we packed up the family and moved to Nevada. We are in a small town just outside Carson City and we have not once regretted the move.

Friends said that we really needed to think because once we left we wouldn't be able to come back. No problem with that - we have no plan EVER to return to Kalifornia.

There's still a few conservative strongholds here in California. I moved from Long Beach to a little town half way up the state, nestled up against the Sierra Nevada Mountains. I DREAD it every time I find some reason why I have to go back, even if it's for a day. When my wife goes down there to visit family I invariably get "the call", where she's sitting on the San Diego Parking Lot (405 Fwy) and crying out her frustrations over how HHOORRIIBBLLEE the traffic is.

I only go back if I have a really important client who absolutely requires my personal help..... or my wife makes me go! :)

Depends on where you live in California. I love California, retired 5 years ago and moved out of San Francisco to the southern Cal desert. Once out of SF I was a happy camper again and wouldn't think of leaving the state. We have water, beaches, mountains, desert, lots to do and beauty everywhere. Just avoid the marxist areas.
