California, there I went

FOR THE first time, the number of people moving out of California outnumbered those moving in -- during a supposed economic expansion. It isn't over yet, either -- demographers expect this trend to continue, probably for several years.
The loss isn't a large one. The California Department of Finance recorded a net loss of about 29,000 people from 2004-05, and it expects that the numbers for 2005-06 will be comparable. But it does cut across most ethnic groups -- whites, Latinos and African Americans, with only Asians showing a net gain -- and has hit families particularly hard, if faster-than-predicted school enrollment declines are to be believed.

No one should move to California, I have felt that way since the day I arrived here.

Such a beautiful state. It's a shame that liberals ruined it.
It seems that liberals move to all of the nice places then ruin them - Key West, slowly but surely Colorado (Boulder, certainly), etc. Then again, there are the plain just nasty places that liberals have ruined as well - N.Y City.

Actually, it "is" dreadful. I much prefer that Californians stay in California. These people never learn. They leave California, the upper east coast, etc, because of high taxes and lack of opportunity. Then, they relocate to states such as Colorado and Texas and the first thing they want to do is re-make these states into the image of the state they just left. Go figure....

Moved out of Burbank in 1999; Started feeling home sick around 2002 when we returned for a visit! Immediately remembered why we left, we couldn't turn around fast enough! One reason was the feeling of being invaded.

"It's not a sign of this state becoming the next Detroit, but if it is, in fact, a sign of the difficulty of buying a house in California, or congestion -- as we've heard -- then we should be concerned," said Hans Johnson, a demographer with the nonprofit Public Policy Institute of California.I was at a real estate seminar regarding investing in the D.C> area a few years back. The economist who did a very good study was saying the people (companies first) will start fleeing if something isn't done about the traffic congestion within the next 109 years. Our ultra-liberal county council keeps saying "take the bus."

My plan is working, Superman...
Nancy gets to be Speaker, then Her Ankleship Prez...
Then Osama goes medieval on the Left Coast!
Then I clean up selling all that Nevada and Arizona beach front property!
I hate to say this, Lex, but I kinda like your plan...

California is overpriced. Housing costs are the biggest reason people are packing up and leaving. The high cost of living too, is an incentive to move to where they'll get more for their dollars.

I still live in CA and am honestly looking for a way out.
I feel the way you did about Southern CA. Last time I visited there, the atmosphere was like Venus. I forgot all about those several mile high dark-brown/red smogbanks hovering perpetually over the Riverside/San Bernardino area. I couldn't wait to get back to my house in rainy overcast hippieville.

Yes, that should have been 1000 years.
Or 10.
