This causes me to be seriously unimpressed by him. First off we just finished mid-terms, give the election cycle a bit of a rest, there's no reason to be running 2008 ads in 2006. Secondly, what about the people that actually elected him, shouldn't they get at least a couple of months where he at least pretends his #1 priority is representing him? Third, South Dakota?! Since when has either Dakota mattered in presidential politics. Really somebody making this serious a blunder this early in the campaign cycle (at least 8 months before the campaign cycle should even begin) causes me to seriously question both his electability and intelligence.

I nominate this for the most unintentionally funny post on DH yet.

Could you add me to your ping list please? Duncan Hunter is my congressman and at this point in time, would get my vote in the upcoming election.

Can't agree with you that this is a blunder.

When one's main weakness is a lack of name recognition, it makes a lot of sense to do things like this to get one's name out.

You may decry the early start of the next election cycle but it has been started in spades by the Demoncrats and the Drive-by media, your suggestions would just cripple the
Repub side. Who's side are YOU on?

That's better than supporting candidates who will lose to Hillary.

You would do well to read the rest of my post. Giuliani has no prayer of beating Hillary. The base will be unenergized and stay home.

People have forgotten what that entails-- pardoning FALN terrorists, Kyoto, universal health care, ACLU judges packed on the courts, French veto over America security, Gitmo terrorists put back in circulation, repeal of the Patriot Act... I need not go on.

Nice try, but I don't vote based on fear of the Democrats. That's the same tactic they use to keep their slavish followers in line. I'm not a slave to the Stupid Party elites.

I'm a winning over authenticity guy.

Like I said, politics over principal. Plus, your guy doesn't have a prayer of winning so you're selling out your principals for a guy who is a political loser on the national scene.

Giuliani has been a loyal party guy, and is even going out of his way to promise judges like Alito and Scalia.

Mighty big of him. Bob Dole was a loyal party guy, too. How'd he work out as a national candidate?

Thanks for the tip on the ads. Hunter is just about the only one I could vote for now. I'm hoping he does well. Also hoping MS Gov./former RNC chairman Haley Barbour runs as president w/ Hunter as VP.

IMHO a good combination of executive and military experience, conservative positions on issues, fundraising capabilities, public speaking performance.

Got an actual rebuttal point? Or just going to rely on being dismissive and insulting to pretend you have a point.

So far the Hunter detractors have slammed him for not having his name out there AND for trying to get his name out there too early.

Funny stuff.

Why the rush to fall in line with the liberal media's picks?

They think they can herd us in that direction by making us think one of the "roadkill moderates" can actually win while true conservatives are dead meat coming out of the gate.

Sorry, I won't be herded.

First rebuttal point: SD = San Diego...

Buying ads in South Dakota really isn't getting your name out. As a congressman he has plenty of opportunities to get his name out already, he should write some bills that show his platform and scare up some co-sponsors, things like "the Hunter-whoever border security bill" would be a much more effective way to get his name out than buying ads in a small state.

Notice the big reaction to the Dems who have been early starting their election cycle is a big yawn. Most of the country thinks the election cycle is too long already, heck they thought it was too long when it was just a year, recently it's expanded to around 18 months and people are even more bored with it, adding another 6 is not a good way to win over people.

A: I didn't actually use SD so you're not actually rebutting anything I said
B: according to the post office SD = South Dakota
C: according to the story he's buying ads in South Dakota so using SD in relation to the story as a reference to South Dakota would be perfectly legitimate if I had done so

Yep, it is funny, but sad. It is just so easy for some people to criticize and complain about their own side. Or maybe they are just agents of the other side trying to make political points.

That's well and good, (and important!) but I've had it up to *here* with Christian Socialists who call themselves conservatives.

How is he on fiscal, gun, and defense issues?

Ah, my apologies. I thought you were referring to Rep. Hunter's district, not where the ads were running. They are running in NC and SC as well, you know.

The rest of your post was still rather pointless, though. Rep. Hunter is criticized on the one hand for not having his name out there. Yet, when he starts running some ads to do that, he's criticized for doing it too early.

Please!

There are a lot of those around. I put anyone who is trying to convince me to vote for a liberal like Rudy McRomney into that camp automatically.

Hunter seems to be a nice decent person who would make a fine President, he has to stay away from the Tancredo crowd and look mainstream before the voters in the primaries.

Since the whole story is about him buying ads, and I mentioned ads it should be pretty obvious it was about the ads. NC and SC aren't that big a deal in presidential politics either.

Well I've never criticized him for not having his name out there, and I can't be held responsible for other people's statement. But all that being said there are better ways to get your name out there as a congressman that buying ads in small states 2 years before the election. He should act like a pro-active congressman, write some bills, stake out some positions, do his job well and loudly.
