Posted on 12/22/2006 4:09:40 PM PST by onyx
Today, President Bush and First Lady Laura went to Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. to visit with volunteers and our brave troops. He awarded sixteen Purple Hearts. Here he is seen helping volunteer children wrap Christmas presents for children of families whose parent have been wounded in service to our country.
In leiu of a quote of the day, I offer you the complete text of his remarks:
THE PRESIDENT: Laura and I are honored to be here to thank the folks working here at this service project. What you're seeing is some young kids wrapping gifts for children whose families are here in Washington, D.C. as a result of an injury that they've received -- that the parent received in combat.
We've also just come from Walter Reed. I got to tell you, it's a remarkable experience to go through the hospital. It's remarkable because of the unbelievable compassion and care of the people who work at Walter Reed. And it's also remarkable to me, these men and women who have volunteered to serve our country, who've received terrible wounds, but whose spirits are strong, their resolve is strong, and their dedication to our country remains strong.
I want all our fellow citizens to understand that we're lucky to have men and women who have volunteered to serve our country like those who wear our uniform. We're lucky to have their families support them so strongly. We owe them all we can give them -- not only for when they're in harm's way, but when they come home to help them adjust if they have wounds, or help them adjust after their time in service. We owe a huge debt of gratitude for incredible men and women. And I -- every time I come to Walter Reed, I am moved by the courage and bravery of the people I meet.
And so on behalf of a grateful nation, I want to thank our military families, thank the folks here who are wrapping gifts for the military families, and ask for God's blessings on our citizens. Thank you.""

Hi sweet you and Merry Chirstmas!
President and First Lady Laura start to walk away after addressing the press. In the bottom photo, I think their faces 'speak to the experience with the press.'
"Look, Laura -- another anal retentive posing as a journalist. Tut tut.."
I just got "lucky"
I visit daily and never end my day with out a stop here...today my day happened to start early...

Hi Miss Marple. He awarded 16 Purple Hearts today. I regret that photos of each recipient were not available, but I note that at least two won two Purple Hearts. Talk about REAL heroes! We are humbled by our brave troops and ever so thankful for them and grateful unto them.
I love that picture. Merry Christmas everyone!
LOL -- says it all, huh?

Congratulations, haircutter! I lurk a lot too...just keeping up w/our President and his Laura via pictures is food for my soul. I'm going to have serious withdrawal pain in 2008.
Thank you, Bahbah. I wish you a Blessed and Happy Christams too! I must be hanging out with snugs a lot... I am naturally starting to say "Happy" Christmas instead of "Merry." :)
Merry Christmas, sissyjane! I wish the LAX players would have gotten better news today. I won't ruin this thread with further comment.
Only three days left.
Great pics. Thanks onyx.
Thank you, ((Blackirish)) --- I wish you and your family a Blessed and Happy Christmas too. I have been confining myself mostly to the Dose... I will help you fight the battles in the trenches "after" Christmas. It's not like I haven't seen the nasty posts. :)
You're most welcome. You're way ahead of me. I have not yet wrapped present number one...lol.
Thank you, Norm, and I sure echo your sentiments.
A Blessed and Happy Christmas to you and your family!
May God bless our brave troops!
That's a beautiful pic. Thanks for posting it.
Well, I'm here for moral support only..you'll have to ask W for help with that.LOL.
BTW, the look on the little girls faces during W's wrapping is priceless. :)
Their faces are so sweet. I almost selected one of their pics for the photo of the day, but decided to choose the pic of our brave soldier who looked most injured. Their sacrifices humble me and bring me to tears.
Her devoted husband has posted an update which y'all will find sad. Please post a message to her on the thread and keep her and her husband in your prayers.

That is ONE heck of a superb photo.
It sure is! Absolutely exudes romance. They are so in love.
FRmail to you.
Hi GEM. Thanks for your vote of confidence and I have replied to your mail, unless there's another. Guess Who wants to come to Christmas Dinner at your house? :)
LOL-LOL-LOL --- that's not my house --- I just came it across it and liked it.
Bump that. There aren't enough honors in the world good enough for them.
I love that he's helping wrap presents but it doesn't look like he's doing it very neatly lol.
Because of the holiday, I'm home earlier than normal today. I also have 10 days off. Yay!
I wish you and yours a very happy holiday and a great new year.
You're right. Their bravery and sacrifices cannot be properly honored in this life.
Yeah, not very neat, but wouldn't it be just the living end, to wrap presents next to him?
