Serge Régnier (as some readers may remember) is a 47-year old Belgian with three wives and thirty children. In 1986 Régnier married Christine Wuest (who is now 38). They have fifteen children, between 19 years and 11 months old. A couple of years later, Christines homeless sister Karine Wuest (now 35 years old) came to live with the couple. Soon she fell in love with Serge. Christine consented in her husband taking her sister as a second wife. Serge and Karine have six children, between 10 years and 10 months old.
All that time, Serge had been meeting his former girlfriend Judith De Leenheer (now 38 years old). When Judiths marriage broke up which was not altogether surprising since all her children were Serges rather than her husbands Serge asked his two wives whether they would mind taking her in. They did not mind. Serge and Judith have nine children, between 18 years and 10 months old. They all live together in Serges house in Marcinelle, a town in Wallonia, the French-speaking South of Belgium...

"...Régnier applied for and received the status of an invalid from Wallonia's generous welfare authorities. He consequently receives a welfare check of over 1,000 a month. His three wives are all unemployed. Hence, they each get 800 in unemployment benefits. On top of this the family receives 4,000 in child allowances. This makes a grand total of more than 7,400 a month ($9,700 or £4,960) all of it provided by Belgiums taxpayers. All the money matters in the household are taken care of by Serge. His wives are only interested in children. They have told the press that they each hope to have another baby in 2007.

Hardly, Utah does not pay that well in welfare. You would starve if you tried to live on State payments.
The FedGov OTOH.....

I never understand why a man would want more then one wife. I can not imagine all those wives with pms. And how does a father of that many children spend quality time with the children? How does he stop the wives from fighting? The whole thing baffles me.

a Community(Wallonia) beyond Shame.Sean is right. Socialism does keep people from reaching their potential. Or even coming close.

This guy has three wives. That means that somewhere in and around Belgium there are two men who are unattached and without companionship. We don't see them and their lives. We don't read about the way being single can sometimes be harmful to the individual men involved, but all a person has to do is imagine a world where a minority of men have gathered together all the marriageable women. What would the unattached men do with their energy and drive? Where would it be directed? How would this kind of marriage shape a culture?
Fortunately, some cultures have already tried out this kind of marriage on a large scale, mostly in the Middle East.

They don't have PMS because they are always pregnant. :-)

In Utah the Mormons believe in first looking to family members for support. After that, the church.
Showing your ignorance on this post exposes your religious bigotry.
If the US stuck closer to Christian principles, we'd be a much stronger country.

Belgium is the first nation that is going to go bankrupt as a result of promising more social security benefits than they can deliver. The US is actually about 8th or 9th on the list. There aren't any Western democracies that really have their social security programs under control.

. Judith, Karine and I each want three more children, says Christine. So did Serge a few months ago, but suddenly no more. What must we make of that? she asks. Régnier, however, denies he is cheating on his wives. They will get their children, but not for the moment, he says.!!!!!

But despite the efforts of this valiant man, the population of Europe is still shrinking rapidly. It takes more than one family, even with three wives, to make up for millions of European women who have decided not to have children.

There's nothing valiant about this guy. He uses and abuses the system like many people do in the States. Except he does ten fold.
If the libs and Hitlery get into the President's office in 2008, Hillary will push that crap about social medicine and social welfare as Canada now has it. It sure takes a village to ruin a country. If the libs get their way, nothing will have money but them, everyone will have the worse medical care ever, but everyone will have it but them, and worse of all, we will be talking to each other in Islam or whatever their language is.
Leave it to the libs and we will become a third country. This will make North Korea, Russia, and all these other countries trying to get to the top on TOP.

The further one reads, the more incredible the article becomes.
Walloonia is obviously Democrat; Flanders clearly Republican.
Only a more advanced stage of our current societal drift...
