This is just a header on Drudge. Details to follow. I personally think it's pretty crappy. I wouldn't want the Bush daughters to go to Iraq either to be honest. I certainly wouldn't want my kid in their unit. Prince Harry would be a serious target for the jihadists. They would throw every bomb, IED, they have at his unit for the propoganda of it. It is really a good thing that he has joined the military and is willing and able to serve, but high profile targets are not good for the mission being served by everybody else.

I would not want to have to tell parents, wives, children that their loved one died because they were standing next to the prince while the jihadists tried to score some PR.

Thoughts?

He's too high-profile to go.

If true, I'll be awfully worried too.

Good for Prince Harry. He didnt have strings pulled to stop him from serving in country.

I realize your point but it also is saying something about the lad that he is willing to serve with his mates.

I applaude his courage. He said from the start he wanted to fight.

How can the royals go into the military and not be at least stationed in the war zone a while?

One was in the Faulklands war on a ship I believe. I can imagine the young men in England gaining new respect for Royals.

He's a spare and spares have served in harm's way before.
Andrew most recently.

He could go to Iraq and be kept in relative safety in the Green Zone in Baghdad. He could serve his country quite ably in an administrative or intelligence position there while not endangering the succession.

If he were not so young, he would understand that he is doing his country honorable service merely by staying alive and working at home.

Good for him. Leadership from the front. I respect it and his comrades will respect it. Especially if he acts like one of the guys.

They are desparate to kill any US or Brits, royalty or not. I dont really think it will effect things as much as you think.

Prince Andrew served with distinction in the Falklands war. Let Harry have his go.

But Charlie Rangel said only poor people were over there and John Kerry said only stupid people ended up in Iraq.

Exactly....it would be disastrous for him to go...and I would not want one of my children in his unit.

I applaud his desire to go...but, it isn't in the Brit Army's best interest.

There are a thousand jobs in the Armed Services that the Bush twins could fill, none of which would take them within a hemisphere of the Green Zone.

But whatever.

They will find a way to keep him in the rear with the gear.
Anyway he has not gone yet and may not.

Expect his unit's location and movements to be openly publicized by the media, who would silently rejoice his death because it would be politically bad for GWB and Tony Blair.

I don't see how the gallant Prince could be anything but a liability, given the nature of this war and the ghoulish Abu Gharib media.

I admire his grit...the Royals always serve in the British armed forces...it's one of their great traditions...back in the 1950s I saw Mountbatten when he visited Annapolis...the Midshipmen paraded and he trooped the line....he was the finest looking man I ever saw in a uniform....talk about command presence.

It might be instructive for folks to see a British prince lead in battle. I wonder what kind of mission/plan/attack he would carry out.
