Pat Robertson predicts 'mass killing'

In what has become an annual tradition of prognostications, religious broadcaster Pat Robertson said Tuesday God has told him that a terrorist attack on the United States would result in "mass killing" late in 2007.

"I'm not necessarily saying it's going to be nuclear," he said during his news-and-talk television show "The 700 Club" on the Christian Broadcasting Network. "The Lord didn't say nuclear. But I do believe it will be something like that."

Robertson said God told him during a recent prayer retreat that major cities and possibly millions of people will be affected by the attack, which should take place sometime after September.

Robertson said God also told him that the U.S. only feigns friendship with Israel and that U.S. policies are pushing Israel toward "national suicide."

Robertson suggested in January 2006 that God punished then-Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon with a stroke for ceding Israeli-controlled land to the Palestinians.

The broadcaster predicted in January 2004 that President Bush would easily win re-election. Bush won 51 percent of the vote that fall, beating Democratic Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts.

In 2005, Robertson predicted that Bush would have victory after victory in his second term. He said Social Security reform proposals would be approved and Bush would nominate conservative judges to federal courts.

Lawmakers confirmed Bush's 2005 nominations of John Roberts and Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court. But the president's Social Security initiative was stalled.

"I have a relatively good track record," he said. "Sometimes I miss."

In May, Robertson said God told him that storms and possibly a tsunami were to crash into America's coastline in 2006. Even though the U.S. was not hit with a tsunami, Robertson on Tuesday cited last spring's heavy rains and flooding in New England as partly fulfilling the prediction.

All one has to do to "predict" is read the rants in the ME media about millions of Christians being killed.

I wish Pat would stick to Prayer, trust Jesus our Lord and leave the prediction dept. alone.

Judging from the fact that he says the Northeastern coastline erosion vindicates his prediction last year that the US would be buffetted by huge storms, I guess I would not be too surprised if he uses your out.

At least he didn't spend big taxpayer dollars to make such a prediction like some others. :)

I really hate it when Pat makes these predictions. It really hurts his ministry. If one really needs serious prayer, those folks in Va. Beach really know how it is done.

I hope he has a good calling plan. Your right this guy is a freak show. Well you were nicer. I find him a pity now because he reminds me of that relative who is so gone but nobody is willing to step up and deal with it. One thing I think is desperately needed is that his children take him out of the TV business ASAP. He is going to ruin the corporation that he has built if something is not done.

Most the Protestants I know think Catholics are Christians so I don't get your point.

Shirley Surely, silly knows that up until Martin Luther, ALL Christians were Catholic, save for a small break away sect whose name escapes me at this early hour.

I don't understand why he does this. It's foolish. If God talks to him, then Pat would be 100% correct. Like I posted earlier, it's a pity.

Robertson sometimes says crap that is as bad as any Taliban....OR he just needs to be put in a straightjacket and locked up in a rubber room shot full of thorazine......

I'm convinced he's nuttier than a nest of cukoos and have been since he "prayed the hurricane away"....

Excellent point, onyx.

The guy's main job is to fool the gullible that actually think his trademarked milkshake is a manifestation of God's powers.

I harbor no animosity toward Pat Robertson. I just don't understand why he sets himself up to look so damn foolish.

Now we know why God didnt allow him to be president.

I think that fact has more to do with the innate common sense of the Republican primary voter.

Old folks with money to spend finding salvation is his target. He's no different than the rest of the fundamentalist cults seeking the almighty dollar with their phoney religiosity. We've got one of them here in UT. Sanctimonious phonies.
