US military strike on Iran seen by April ’07
Arab Times (Kuwait) ^ | 14th Jan 2007 | Ahmed Al-Jarallah - Editor-in-Chief

KUWAIT CITY: Washington will launch a military strike on Iran before April 2007, say sources. The attack will be launched from the sea and Patriot missiles will guard all oil-producing countries in the region, they add. Recent statements emanating from the United States indicate the Bush administration’s new strategy for Iraq doesn’t include any proposal to make a compromise or negotiate with Syria or Iran. A reliable source said President Bush recently held a meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Robert Gates, Secretary of State Dr Condoleezza Rice and other assistants in the White House where they discussed the plan to attack Iran in minute detail.

According to the source, Vice President Dick Cheney highlighted the threat posed by Iran to not only Saudi Arabia but the whole region. “Tehran is not playing politics. Iranian leaders are using their country’s religious influence to support the aggressive regime’s ambition to expand,” the source quoted Dick Cheney as saying. Indicating participants of the meeting agreed to impose restrictions on the ambitions of Iranian regime before April 2007 without exposing other countries in the region to any danger, the source said “they have chosen April as British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said it will be the last month in office for him. The United States has to take action against Iran and Syria before April 2007.”

Claiming the attack will be launched from the sea and not from any country in the region, he said “the US and its allies will target the oil installations and nuclear facilities of Iran ensuring there is no environmental catastrophe or after effects.” “Already the US has started sending its warships to the Gulf and the build-up will continue until Washington has the required number by the end of this month,” the source said. “US forces in Iraq and other countries in the region will be protected against any Iranian missile attack by an advanced Patriot missile system.”

He went on to say “although US Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Secretary of State Dr Condoleezza Rice suggested postponing the attack, President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney insisted on attacking Tehran without any negotiations based on the lesson they learnt in Iraq recently.” The Bush administration believes attacking Iran will create a new power balance in the region, calm down the situation in Iraq and pave the way for their democratic project, which had to be suspended due to the interference of Tehran and Damascus in Iraq, he continued. The attack on Iran will weaken the Syrian regime, which will eventually fade away, the source said.

WHo is Hugo going to fight?
That guy is really certifiable. I doubt we'd send much more than a cia agent with a sniper rifle to take out Chavez; but it would more likely be economic sanctions that would be used to squeeze him. Does he really think a few Russian rifles
(parts and ammo will take forever to get when supplies run low, they'll be on back order for 6 months) and some helecopters are any kind of threat?

Chavez said Russia is to supply Venezuela by year's end with the first of 24 Sukhoi SU-30MK2s, Russia's most sophisticated fighter planes, and 30 Mil Mi-35 assault helicopters that were part of an arms order worth about 1 billion dollars that he placed in July during a visit to Russia.

My concern is what else has Russia sent to Ven.? Missile's?

Is Iran sending missiles to Ven.?

Would Chavez dare attack us if we attack Iran?

The gallows we built for Saddam could get a workout. We wouldn't really need them for Mahmoud Ahmadinejad though. He's so short his legs don't reach the ground anyway. Just put a rope around his neck and he's done.

Chavez himself, of course, is not pure native but he seems to have decided to ignore the inconvenient fact that he has Spanish blood. He also has very close ties with various Arabs or Muslims and has a number of them in his government, and he likes to harp on that, too.

Personally, I don't think he'd dare attack us, but if we were busy with Iran, he might attack Mexico. He's been trying to infiltrate Mexico for some time, particularly to stir up trouble with its Indian population.

"RINO's fall in line that is."

I doubt they will. They're too busy looking at the next election and their standing in the polls.

" I've a feeling their military bases are made of more substantial stuff. We'd be hitting those, not cities full of civilians."

And they build them far away from civilians, because we all know how caring Muzzies are about women and children...

" Fortunately he doesn't need it. He gives the orders and the military drops the bobms. Let the Senate howl."

Not that simple. The nation would have to be in imminent danger.(didn't stop Clinton from bombing Serbs though) Plus we all know what would happen next. The left would be demanding Bush be impeached for "war Crimes" and acting without the approval of the UN and international community. Same old song and dance, but it will be louder.

The French and Germans would be upset because of all the arms for cheap oil deals they would loose

F 'em.

and Russia and it's nuclear sales,

Good.

Again, that's not how the real world works. It's easy to talk tough and say we should simply toss bombs on things that bother us, but that only works in video games. This isn't a video game.

You might want to peruse the War Powers Act sometime.

There is still the belief in the M.E. and around the world that somehow we are afraid to attack Iran and/or Syria or that our hands are tied politically. The nut job, guided by his wacky interpretation of prophesy, is starting to believe his own press and I very much hope he lobs a missile at one of our ships in the region. It will be nice to clean up the mess Jimmy Carter left in Iran.

That would be interesting. Considering Chavez is impulsive and not much of a stragigist, He'd prolly get his butt kicked by Mexico. They are after all, experts at infiltrating a country.

If any strikes are going to be made on Iran, it will be by Israel, not the US.

All these fools talking about how over stretched our military is haven't got any inkling of just how much combat power this nation can project.

That's probably the most important thing Bush can do to pull out a "win" from Iraq---put an end to this "stretched too thin" BS.

No matter how bad it still is in Iraq, showing that we can still bloody another country's nose will put the fear of "The Great Satan" into all the other little dictaterrorists again.

We can do a lot more than just bloody a nose or two. But your point is very well taken.

Once Amaneedinadinnerjacket and his mullahs are bouncing from hole to hole dodging missiles and trying to get by on 3 hours of sleep a day they'll stop kicking the tiger in the ass.

John Pike (of GlobalSecurity.org and Fox/CNN/etc. military expert taking head) was recently interviewed by CNN about this.

Some interesting quotes :

"Look at what he [the President] said the United States is going to do. As previously reported, several weeks ago, the aircraft carrier, John Stennis, is being dispatched to the Persian Gulf. That gives the United States two aircraft carriers in the Gulf. Round the clock operations. He also, surprisingly, announced that the United States was going to be deploying Patriot anti-missile interceptors to the region. It's difficult to imagine whose missiles those would be shooting down other than Iran. It's looks to me like the United States is, at least, raising its capabilities in preparation for possible military confrontation with Iran."

Pike provides a time frame in which the U.S. or Israel might first strike Iran, explaining, "I think the month of February is certainly a time of heightened probability. It's very difficult to understand exactly what the thinking is at the White House and in the Israeli government but for sometime now we've been saying that 2007 is probably the time, if there's going to be military action, it's probably going to come this year. Possible as soon as next month. Probably no later that August of this year."

What for? Does it have jurisdiction over the UN? Countries that back Iran?

Didn't think so. Bush has to do the UN resolution dance first, just like he had to with Iraq. Otherwize Iran would be dust already. There will be a lot of closed office door deals with other countries as well, we will have to compensate them for their losses. That's the biggest reason why it's doubtful Iran will be bombed. Bush won't go off half cocked and bomb Iran. He'l do what he's best at first, broker deals and get people on our side, then the Un will become a statemate, with a resolution hanging in need of enforcement.
