Internet poker executives and their financial enablers pose a threat to all of us. While they're loose, we all must sleep with one eye open.

Kudos to the F.B.I. for making the world safer for all Americans.

Good post. The Government is good at creating crimes.

If people were really concerned about teenagers gambling online, Congress could have passed a law that cracked down on ensuring the identity and age of the person gambling. This would have solved the so-called underage gambling problem.

But this legislation was slid in to protect Chief Gambino Little-Feather, Trump, Wynn, etc...

Jurisdiction, or the matter of it, was my first thought: the article alludes to their traveling through the United States, I didn't see specifics.

I guess United States currency remains the property of the U.S. even when virtually changed in character.

The gamblers were voluntary participants in the transaction but remain at large and out the money or winnings as well.

Freedom and protection are poor bedfellows.

"The war on internet poker is really raging."

Better phrased: The war on freedom is really raging.

because individual states can't go after NetTeller, and the related companies needed to support offshore poker. only a federal law could accomplish that. the federal law stopped the credit card companies, these "e-teller" services are next. the government is fundamentally taking away the ability to move funds out of the US, for any reason.

Which is stupid in regards to poker because some casinos opened poker rooms in part to people playing online. You also can't play microlimit in B&M casinos while you can online. Unbelieveable.

I have never understood why the B&M casino companies who clearly do have sway with politicians don't push for and get the US congress to legalize online gambling. Poker at a minimum. With the BILLIONS of dollars wagerd in online poker games, the vast majority of players being American, and the vast tax revenues to be made, it would seem they would do it.

I, as a poker player (both online and in person) would much prefer to play at a site that is based in America, with payment system based in America, and the backing of a big American gaming interest such as Wynn operating it. I would have 100% confidence in the system. As it is now, I and millions of others have to rely on 3rd party, foreign companies to handle and transfer my funds, and the reliability, honesty, and security of a foreign poker site out of who knows where.

Poker is an American game and we aren't even allowed to be in the poker business.

And the casino's run no chance of losing a live player because they can play online. And with US casinos running online poker sites, they actually stand a damn good chance of increasing their visitors.

I'm sympathetic to the plight of these two executives. But they knew of the new U.S. law, and it is apparent, they SHOULD NOT HAVE COME into the U.S. until the law gets changed.

Or, maybe their arrest is by design, to test the new law. We will have to wait and see.

I know that I am not about to break the law by sending my U.S. dollars through Netteller or Paypal to an account in an overseas internet gambling casino. I withdrew my money immediately from the foreign casino with whom I was playing online poker. I am waiting for the law to change.

I suppose the government would probably argue that since these guys aren't American citizens, they aren't subject to our Constitutional protections.

The only wrinkle to that is they were arrested in America, and thus due 100% of the constitutional protections.

I beleive the Feds get their authority on this matter from their legal standing in regardes to currency transfers, wires, the bank charters of the credit card companies.

Remember, its not the playing of poker online that is illegal, it is the transfering of money that is illegal.

I think they fear the competitiveness of online gaming.

I believe one casino owner needs to make the jump into the online world in one state (Nevada, New Jersey, etc...) where gaming is legal and challenge the U.S. Government in the Supreme Court.

I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.

We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt.

The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.

Same here. I didn't want to test the waters.

What law did they break? Up until October, Netteller was not violating any law. One of the men left Netteller in 2005, the other in Oct. 2006. Currently their only "connection" to netteller, if you can call it that, is owning stock.

So by that standard, any person who owns stock in netteller is subject to arrest when they step foot in America.

This is just assinine.

The B&M would still run into the problem with the transfer of funds. Remember, only the transfer of funds is what is illegal.

I would likely play at more sites if the transfer of funds was quicker. And the US casinos could build and share the funds transfer company thus people could move freely between the casinos.

But with some of the online systems now, it can take a day or more for the money to show up in your account before you can move it to another site.
