There are plenty of people on the planet and considering that at least 70% of them are morons, it could be stated that there are already way, waaaayy too many people here.

Reality check. The modern American economy is based on the assumption that both members of a two parent household are working. You cannot have five, eight, or ten kids when mom and dad are both at work 10-12 hours a day. Returning to 18th century birthrates means taking women out of the workplace, which would cause some fairly severe economic contraction in the United States (think about it...most households in the US would take an immediate 50% pay cut). That would impact everything from tax rolls (goodbye big military budgets) to the economic sustainability of many businesses. The real estate market in particular would take an unparalleled hit, as land values were halved.

There is no solution to the problem of declining population, it's just going to have to be dealt with as it comes. In this case, as in many, the solution is just as harmful as the original problem.

Actually Yogi, this is pretty simple.

Non-Muslims have enough babies to maintain their numbers.
Muslims have enough babies to double their population every 20 years.
Eventully, there are more Muslims than non-Muslims.
Then, the Mulims get to make the laws.

"Nobody goes to that mosque anymore, its too crowded" - Yogi Berra's great grandson of the future

And when the Muslims keep having babies while we abort ourselves out of existance, we'll push the moron rate up to 80%

"So basically this is a thinly disguised pro open borders thread...So much for Christian honesty."

Is this extrapolation or mere strawman argument? Provide one quote supporting open borders.

My husband and I are doing our best to populate the U.S.!! :o) Our next is due in August.

I'm not sure who posted the response about mom's not being able to work and raise kids, too, but most of my friends work from home or have their own home-based business. There are lots of options out there!

Seems to me that the more populated America becomes, the further into socialism we slide.

Not just socialism per se, but structure imposed by government in general, simply to keep order among the growing masses. As population density increases, the implicit freedoms such as you mention are gradually eroded by sheer force of proximity. To maintain order in a city of ten million is a different matter than a city of one million. A town of fifty thousand is a different place than a village of two thousand.

Based on considerations of personal freedom, I believe the US passed its optimum population some time ago.

Just think. That aborted child might just have been the person who would pray for your soul to get into heaven?

Part of the reason for reduced population. Planned Parenthood's budget. Total revenue with government money:

Fiscal Year / Total Revenue / Govt. Grants & Contracts
2003-2004 ... $810.0 million ... $265.2 million
2002-2003 ... $766.6 million ... $254.4 million
2001-2002 ... $692.5 million ... $240.9 million
2000-2001 ... $672.6 million ... $202.7 million
1999-2000 ... $627.2 million ... $187.3 million
1998-1999 ... $660.7 million ... $176.5 million

We can still have 1/4 acre for each of world's population in the State of Texas. It has not changed since the 1970s

More than a hundred years ago, we cut off Chinese immigration. as a result of a shortage of women, Chinese men were unable to find wives here, and plenty of them went bonkers. The present surplus of men in today's China can't be good for the stability of that society.

Anyone else notice that although the author says the population of the earth will be shrinking "soon," she does not give the predicted year. She talks only about shrinking populations in selected countries.

Such negligent reporting only gives a black eye to those of us in the Clean Plate Club, who are looking forward to the day when the earth's resources will be completely used up.

To combine the idea of population growth with abortion and birth control is sleazy and dishonest to boot. It's possible to care about the unborn and the born.

"To combine the idea of population growth with abortion and birth control is sleazy and dishonest to boot."

How so? Every abortion is one less person on the planet, not to mention any decedents they may have. There is a direct correlation to population growth and the abortion rate. No demographer disputes this. It is common sense. It is the why (Blue) states such as NY are shrinking and why (Red) states like Utah are growing. Abortion rates of the 1970's have a profound effect on population growth rates of today.

Overpopulation is as much a myth as global warming. These are pretty much liberal concepts used to exercise power over people. If you repeat such a mantra over and over again and teach it in schools and practically indoctrinate people, in a few years you get a lot of people convinced, and that's precisely what liberal politicians are looking for. As a consequence, they are able to pass laws, increase your taxes, destroy industries and create new ones, but more importantly, they have more power over the lives of the citizenry.

Some would say that economics is the root of this problem, that woman's labor is needed to make money in the work force in order to provide luxuries, vacations, a second car, etc. to the family. Therefore, less children.

You mention tax debr/national debt.

So are the immigrants being encouraged because they will pay into the tax structure?

Hmmm. Have to think on that one........not.
