Democrats unswayed by Bush speech

DEMOCRATS today accused US President George W. Bush of "recklessly" leading America into war in Iraq and called for a withdrawal of US forces in a blunt rebuttal to the President's annual State of the Union speech.

"This country has patiently endured a mismanaged war for nearly four years," said Senator James Webb, who was designated to deliver the Oopposition party's rebuttal to the President's key annual address before Congress.

"Many, including myself, warned even before the war began that it was unnecessary, that it would take our energy and attention away from the larger war against terrorism, and that invading and occupying Iraq would leave us strategically vulnerable in the most violent and turbulent corner of the world," Senator Webb said in prepared remarks made available ahead of the speech.

Mr Bush said in his address that he and US military commanders looked at "every possible approach" before deciding to send 21,500 more US soldiers into battle.

"In the end, I chose this course of action because it provides the best chance of success," said the President in advance excerpts released by the White House.

"Many in this chamber understand that America must not fail in Iraq - because you understand that the consequences of failure would be grievous and far reaching," Mr Bush said.

To sway them a 2x4 is needed, and not a speech.

Bush did not even have to make the speech...the ThugoRats would have made the same statements of idiocy. They continue to show how totally USELESS THEY ARE TO AMERICA and its future.

Hoyer just said the real WOT doesn't go through Iraq even though Zawahiri disagrees and acknowledged Al-Qaeda is there.

It is unfathomable that an entire party would fight the Executive on a war like this. Very sad. No loyalty to the country whatsoever. Just shi**y politics as usual.

I watch TV extremely rarely, and didn't have the heart to watch this one. I read the transcript, and thought his speechwriters were pretty feeble. Like they just went through the motions. I hope it went over better than that.

I am actually surprised that any member of the Marxist-Lenin Party even showed up. The only reason they did was to jeer and smear.

I agree, they are useless to the future of American, but the American people may well believe them and "endorse" them again.

Maybe Hillary needs to have a little talk with Truman, like the one she had with Eleanor Roosevelt.

Truman could tell her how he sent US troops to Korea, to fight for the freedom of the South Koreans.

Truman could also mention the 3,000 Americans who died in the first 5 weeks of the War. And he could mention the 30,000 American who died in Korea in the 2+ years that he remained president.

Democrats unswayed by Bush speech

Fortunately President Bush does not give a damn about the democrats, in particular when it comes to the war. He is the only Commander in Chief and he knows that he has vastly more power than Congress when it comes to war and foreign policy. The democrats know it as well and that why we see these defeatists and treasonous "non biding" resolutions coming from them.

Just shi**y politics as usual

Well, "our" side never fights back. We just grin and bear it and wonder why we are losing and will continue to lose.

And, that larger war is exactly what? Jim Webb. Be specific.

If this conflict is lost what happens to our credibility as a
world leader for freedom? We will never be takem seriously again and perhaps Bin Laden is correct.

The American people seem to have no fight left in them. The
forces on ther extreme left have captured the attention of the average American.

The democrat dream coming to fruition; the last helicopter, evil ensues and mass killings. Another Carter-like Presidency
waiting in the wings.
