Yes, I think it's a reality. And I am talking about MAN MADE global warming.
Specifically, one man.

Every time algore exhales, the temperature of the earth goes up a sixteenth of a Fahrenheit.

As with most of these polls, the question is phrased too simplistically to have meaning. No options were given to considerations such as "Do you think that global warming is man-made or narural in origin and beyond our control?" or "Do you think that it's narurally cyclcal in nature?", etc.

They really show their contempt for their readers' intelligence by phrasing things in such a way, and this illustrates why so many polls are utterly worthless.

Yes, but what does the actual research indicate. It certainly seems to be as divided as public opinion. Not the certainity that the global warming alarmests think

bingo!

this is so true. the phrasing of a question in statistics is more important than the actual statistic being measured since the question can define the outcome the poolster desires.

I think the concept of "global warming" is a big baloney sandwich.

Or a "meat popsicle" to quote Bruce Willis in "The Fifth Element".

Polls like this show the ignorance of the MSM and anyone who would even publish a nonsense poll like this. Are we in a warming trend due to the various combinations of the positive/negative oscillation cycles of the various ocean currents right now? Have we been bombarded with a higher frequency of solar storms due to increased sunspot activity the past few years? Have the massive amounts of energy released by cyclones Durian, Larry, and Monica had an effect on overall patterns? Yes, yes and yes. Is the presence of additional man made emissions in the atmosphere having an effect? Probably. But would the absence of any single one of these factors or dozens of others have us in the same climatological situation? WHO KNOWS? It's a massive planet with more going on than ANY computer model could hope to capture and then project.

Was Heidi Cullen ever on staff at this newspaper?

You said it right. Only an idiot would try to refute the warming trend that we've been experiencing. Is that warming trend the result of burning fossil fuels or is it simply a trend?
Anecdotal evidence in piles and piles does not prove cause.

From Wikipedia. Seems we'll be back up to the temperature we were at 4000ish years ago in another 5-700ish years if things keep going this way...

Ok, so where on the site is the poll???

The REAL question perhaps should be; are the recent slight rises in temperature due to man-made causes; natural, not man-made causes; or some combination of both?

My answer? When I pee in ocean, it causes a net increase in the ocean's volume, plus, some small, very localized heating (I'm warming up that one little spot, just a little!)

Never mind that humongous source of infared-to-ultraviolet light (with it's associated heat) which is that nearby star we call the Sun. THAT simply CANNOT have anything to do with our planet heating! Are you going to believe your eyes, or are you going to believe what I'm telling you???

Geothermal events and conditions can have absolutely nothing to do with it either! It simply has to be mankind's doing, alone! Or we won't have a newly found 'holy', secular religion, in which we can both bash Republicans AND tie the West's hands behind it's collective backs so that China (and to lesser extent, India) can gobble up the world, bringing Socialist Workers' Utopia!!!

It's all George Bush's fault, too!

WHen are we finally going to be able to expose this Global Warming phooey, for what it is???

AAh, but that's what the Rats want us to try and do, so they can tell any and all, "we are trying to SAVE the World, and those nasty Republicans just won't let us, whimper, whimper, cry...

Thank you, and your statement is well-phrased as well.  "Yes" or "No" just simply doesn't provide enough detail to answer questions such as the one posed by this paper.

I voted NO!
Why is Greenland called Greenland? Who moved the glacier off Kansas and South Dakota? What happened to the ice-age that was supposed to be here by now according to scientific consensus 30 years ago? Why have cold and hot temperature records been recorded all over the globe from the first day man has been able to measure temperature? What is so wrong with the earth's avg. temp. warming up a few degrees over a period of 200 years? What happened in past millennia when the earth's avg. temp rose and fell over the course of centuries?
Seems to me this big blue marble keeps getting better and better because of a wonderful creature called "Man" and his blessed existence here.

Made made global warming is almost as big a farce being perpetuated upon us today as Paris Hilton or Barak Hussein Obama. -Wb

Thank you for your kind words, and your statement sums up the matter very well.

I hope that you won't mind a further comment on a more personal note, but I've noticed that every time I see you online you appear to be thirsty.  Here's a nice whisky for you which hopefully will help  :-)

this is a prevalent use by advocacy groups that cannot put out a straight question on the ballot since they know that the electorate will not support their propositions. Abortion, gay rights, global warming, you name it.

What troubles me is how the so called 'well educated' among us that fall for this.

I have learned to appreciate a healthy respect for the 'common man' that sees through all this hooey.

More power to us!

cheers!

So, your the guy.

The question in the poll is wrong. Do I think the current decade is warmer than the previous decade, yes. Do I think that it is man made, a very small fraction. I saw an article in National Geographic (I think) that showed the north magnetic pole had moved north in the last 150 years, and, by 2050 will be off Siberia. I think the magnetic pole movement has more to do with global warming than man. Besides, we will need the extra warmth when the next ice age comes. Work on that Al.
