but we do see it as a violation of the duty of office and the constitution to misuse any political office to promote one's religion! The very thought disgusts and it is very insulting that you would insinuate such an accusation!

hmmmm. El Dorado, Texas comes to mind.

Just like splinter groups of the Seventh Day Adventist, like the branch Davidians and David Koresh, do not respresent Seventh Day Adventists, Warren Jeffs and his small band of follower do not represent Mormons. In my mind, it is like saying Lutherans are Catholics.

Are you implying that Mitt Romney is the equivalent to Warren Jeffs? That implication would be a smear, totally transparent and disingenuous.

Not even close. I wasn't even thinking about Romney. I was thinking about your description of Mormon ethics. Some of my best friends are Mormon. Unfortunately (for me), they recently moved back to Utah after living next door for 30+ years.

I do know that there were some very deceptive abuses of "rank" with the church, lies to state authorities, and all kinds of other illegal and deceptive practices used by Warren Jeffs and his group to gain land (illegally) in Texas in the name of Mormon.

Has the Mormon Church denounced Jeffs? I haven't seen if it they did, but would appreciate some confirmation if they did.

I didn't mean to take this thread off track, but your general comment immediately triggered El Dorado in my mind.

The denouncements have been consistent and forceful since their inception.

Here is the link of a recent press release (there are other ones for years and there are endless).
http://lds.org/newsroom/showrelease/0,15503,4044-1-23938,00.html

Here is the text:

Polygamist Sects Are Not “Mormons,” Church Says
29 August 2006

DETAILED INFORMATION
Comments on the News: Arrest of Warren Jeffs
"Polygamist Sought for Two Years Is Arrested in Nevada," Washington Post

SALT LAKE CITY — Many news outlets are reporting on the recent arrest of fugitive polygamist leader Warren Jeffs, who is on the FBI’s Most Wanted list.

Some media outlets have been very careful to describe Warren Jeffs as a “fugitive polygamist sect leader.” Other reports refer to Mr. Jeffs as a “Mormon,” “fundamentalist Mormon,” or as the leader of a “Mormon sect.”

Some may debate what the definition of a Mormon is, but terms like “Mormon Tabernacle Choir,” “Mormon Temple” and “Mormon missionaries” are universally understood to refer to the 12-million member Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Quite simply, calling Warren Jeffs a Mormon is misleading and confusing to the vast majority of audiences who rightfully associate the term “Mormon” with members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

The following information may be helpful in further drawing the distinction:

Warren Jeffs Is Not a Mormon
Warren Jeffs is not a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and never has been.

Mormons Do Not Practice Polygamy
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints discontinued the practice of polygamy in 1890. (Read history.)

In 1998, President Gordon B. Hinckley said: "I wish to state categorically that this Church has nothing whatever to do with those practicing polygamy. They are not members of this Church. Most of them have never been members. They are in violation of the civil law. ...

"If any of our members are found to be practicing plural marriage, they are excommunicated, the most serious penalty the Church can impose. Not only are those so involved in direct violation of the civil law, they are in violation of the law of this Church." (Read full statement.)

There Is No Such Thing as a "Mormon Fundamentalist" or "Mormon Sect"
The term "Mormon" is a nickname commonly applied to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. There is no such thing as a "Mormon fundamentalist," nor are there “Mormon sects." A correct term to describe these polygamist groups is "polygamist sects." The inclusion of the word "Mormon" is misleading and inaccurate.

Associated Press
The Associated Press Stylebook states, "The term Mormon is not properly applied to the other Latter Day Saints churches that resulted from the split after [Joseph] Smith's death."

No, no I wouldn't have said that. What you said has relevance and may in fact be the way things go. I just wanted to acknowledge your post and I couldn't think of anything else to say.

I don't want McCain to be President. IMO he is very unfit to be Pres. even without the age and health considerations. It's a shame AZ hasn't found a way to replace him as Sen. as well. You weren't cold.

No problem and very understandable. I shouldn't post when I'm tired. Sometimes I shouldn't post when I'm not tired. LOL

Your post is offensive, not only to me, but many others, mormon and non-mormon. I have also worked with Mormons most of my life, and I have to say they are some of the most honest, moral, "God and Country" oriented people I know. Instead of googleing to read about them, why don't you try getting to know them personally.

Let's not forget... "By their fruits ye shall know them"

Sorry for the late response as I have been in Europe for the last week.

Trust me, I worked with them for 21 years. How about someone putting tri-chyrol-eythelene in your coffee machine for those years?

Offensive? Yes, that is offensive. I'm a dead man walking because of "them". I don't need to google, I'm living with your offensive.
