No Destructive Pacific-Wide Tsunami threat exists based on historical earthquake and tsunami data.
However - Earthquakes of this size sometimes generate local tsunamis that can be destructive along coasts located within a hundred kilometers of the earthquake epicenter. Authorities in the region of the epicenter should be aware of this possibility and take appropriate action.
This will be the only bulletin issued for this event unless additional information becomes available.
The West Coast/Alaska Tsunami Warning Center will issue bulletins for Alaska - British Columbia - Washington - Oregon - California.
This quake is the same magnitude as a quake occurring in the same area as the 6.5 quake ten months ago on March 31, 2006.

HEADS UP MATE!!!!!!!
Parliament is about to find out how well those new base isolators work...
Oh boy Debbie leaves California and takes the earthquakes with her.
This would barely make the news if happened in Alaska.
That's probably because Alaskans have so many important issues to contemplate.
That's true, the energy independence of the USA and earthquakes 100 times stronger are common enough.
Likely even lateral, though deeper than ours. Still some distance however from the main cities. She likely wouldn't have felt it.
You're right, we are nothing without Alaska. Alaska, here is your salute.
ROFLOL!
(grin!)
Maybe I'll end up with waterfront property after all...!
(I live in the mountains west of Auckland)
Seriously, tho' -- if a big-enough tsunami hits Auckland we are stuffed.
Cheers
Andy
