He's supposed to be a comedian but I don't recall ever seeing him do anything funny or hearing him say anything funny. Can you be a comedian and not be funny?

Actually, I think it's his looks. He once appeared as a guy in a gorilla suit in a movie entitled, "Changing Places". Everytime I see him, I can't help thinking of him in that movie as a funny looking guy in a gorilla suit.

Why not? They had Jesse 'The Body' Ventura for governor. Why not Al 'The (No Reference To Probable Sexual Preference)' Franken for senator? Serious politics at their most frivolous.

Given that 'Jesse' made it to the Governor's house a few years ago; and then, their recent contribution of Keith Ellison; Alfranken should be a no brainer. . .Let me rephrase that. . .Alfranken IS a 'nobrainer'; and he will have no trouble winning in Minnesota.

(That said, the people are really friendly and nice. . .)

Al Franken Weighing Possible Senate Run

Asserting that “I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me!” left-wing talk-show host and former comedian, Al Franken contacted Democratic lawmakers from Minnesota seeking their advice on a possible Senate run against Republican Sen. Norm Coleman next year.

Franken said he’s very concerned with what he calls “America’s selfishness.” “Everywhere I look I see people grubbing for money, feeding their families, and looking out for number one,” Franken complained. “Where’s the concern for one’s fellow man?”

“I say it’s time for Americans to ask not what their country can do for them, but what they can do for me, Al Franken,” he said. “I think America needs to hear this message and take appropriate action before it’s too late.”

Franken said he was concerned about how people will respond to a former comedian running for the Senate. “I haven’t said or done anything funny in years,” Franken pointed out. “But some people might remember me from my ‘Saturday Night Live’ days and assume that since I was on an allegedly funny show that I can’t be taken seriously now.”

Franken said he hopes to make a decision in the next few weeks. Last year, he moved his radio show from New York City to Minneapolis to get away from what he labeled New City’s “right-wing ambience.”

No he won't win. Ellison only won because he ran in the most liberal district in the country; the MN 5th. The suburbs and rural areas outside Mnpls/St.Paul are very Republican.

Well; hope the vote fits the profile. (I guess Jesse was a 'Libertarian' or just a flake fluke?)

I don't know, there are alot of people here in Minneosta who are blue collar yahoos that thought voting for Jesse was really cool.

The liberals here are stuck in the past and don't understand what has happened to the DFL. They only read and listen to the soundbites.

I agree with you, I wouldn't be surprised if they voted for Franken.

Well he campaigned with libertarian platforms; giving back the surplus, getting rid of vehicle emissions etc. He did a lot of good things, but the state legislature just wouldn't work with him on anything else.

Apparently, if one does indeed consider Al a comedian.

Then again, I could call myself a rocket scientist, but that doesn't make it so.

Jesse seemed like a 'good guy'; well-intentioned; but not ready for political prime-time and was thus made into a sad caricature of sorts.

For now; given the state of recent elections; it is hard to predict; but I hope more citizens; and certainly Repubs; wake-up to the 'jeopardy factor' we face here at home. Liberals getting to anywhere close to outlets of political power; is a threat guaranteed against the greater good of our Country; and the world-at-large as well.
