Giuliani Would Defeat Hillary in New Jersey (Quinnipiac alert)

Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani is the favourite Republican United States presidential contender for voters in the Garden State, according to a poll by the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. 48 per cent of respondents in New Jersey would vote for Giuliani in a head-to-head contest against Democratic New York senator Hillary Rodham Clinton.

In other match-ups, Rodham Clinton holds a one-point edge over Arizona senator John McCain, and a 24-point advantage over former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. McCain leads former North Carolina senator John Edwards by six points, and Illinois senator Barack Obama by three points.

In 2004, Democratic nominee John Kerry carried New Jersey’s 15 electoral votes, with 53 per cent of the vote. No Republican has won the Garden State since George H. Bush in 1988.

Incumbent George W. Bush is ineligible for a third term in office. The next United States presidential election is scheduled for November 2008.

Polling Data

If the 2008 election for President were being held today, and the candidates were (the Democrat) and (the Republican), for whom would you vote?

Rudy Giuliani (R) 48% - 41% Hillary Rodham Clinton (R)
John McCain (R) 43% - 44% Hillary Rodham Clinton (R)
Mitt Romney (R) 29% - 53% Hillary Rodham Clinton (R)
John McCain (R) 45% - 39% John Edwards (R)
John McCain (R) 42% - 39% Barack Obama (R)

(sic) re: all the erroneous "(R)" designations.

Source: Quinnipiac University Polling Institute Methodology: Telephone interviews to 1,310 registered Ohio voters, conducted from Jan. 16 to Jan. 22, 2006. Margin of error is 2.7 per cent.

"That entire post had strange typos, with all the R's, so I hope to see a corrected verion from someone!"

They likely just slapped the silly poll together from bits and pieces of other polls. It don't really matter to me.

Rudy upheld N.Y. State gun laws; he didn't just go make stuff up.

You can legally own guns in N.Y.C.! Rudy went after the thugs and gang bangers who have and sell ILLEGAL guns; guns used in criminal acts, guns with their serial numbers effaced, dealers who sold guns illegally.

Can you come up with someone who is the second coming of Reagan? Is someone like that out there? Is anyone outside of the top tier of the GOP field even likely to get the nomination?

Rudy might not make you all that enthusiastic, right now, so WHO does?

Do you think all 8 million inhabitants of the city are liberals? There are even conservatives in Manhattan but they probably hide in the subways, LOL! Actually they are everywhere, Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn are still quite conservative but not enough to offset the rest.

I don't know if he could take California, but it would be hysterical to watch the Dems, if he did! LOL

"I get my moral values from my community, my church, and my family. I don't need to look to politicians for social conservatism."

No, but we need to elect conservatives who will do battle against the liberal pro-abortion, pro-death, anti-family, anti-God, pro-gay agenda on a daily basis. Don't look now, but the liberals have all but destroyed family values and freedom of religion in America. When we allow our own conservative platform to be dissolved, what's left?

the people who died were all on the upper floors, isolated from stairwell escapes. the firemen, would not retreat when called, they stayed on the job.

I'll just add my usual response in defense of Rudy. If you lived or worked in NYC in the pre-Rudy and post-Rudy eras, you would vote for him in a NY minute. The guy cleaned up the swamp that was NY City; he's tough as nails and a leader. He's got charisma and heart.

Bombing Mecca would NOT halt terrorist attacks. You really need to stop thinking in terms of a movie script.

Well, we'll agree to disagree then.

I'm just saying that it's more prudent to elect a fiscal & national security conservative Republican instead of one who's going to run solely on social issues.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...an ALL Catholic ticket might be a problem.

As the VEEP, there shouldn't be a RELIGIOUS comparison.

If I could convince Dr. Coburn to run I would in a heartbeat. He won't consider it and neither will Senator Inhofe! From what I hear they have been asked a number of times from all of us! You get the standard, we are flattered but... Gov Keating decided not to run. Former Cong Watts has too much baggage. I like Gov Rick Perry but people don't want another Texan. We have a lot of dull Republicans in Congress IMO except the two firebrands from OK and a few others.

BTW, Senator Coburn is speaking at the luncheon for the OK State Committee on Saturday. I cannot wait to hear him speak about the Iraqi War.

Our Conservative problem is that we didn't groom anyone for 2008 that has the WOW factor of leadership, charisma, and speaking ability plus is conservative on all the issues. We have a Conservative leadership void IMHO.

Have heard most of these people running speak in person and people on the fence are not going to vote for most of them. I can remember when Brownback spoke, I tuned out about 10 minutes into what he was saying. Gov Huckabee is nice but couldn't get a lot of people to turn out when he came to OK during the election. Only Republican speaker that had Republicans talking here in OK other than Rudy was George Allen, my first choice, and he lost. I also love Jeb but after the last couple of years that is not going to happen.

I live in a college town and Rudy is the buzz around here but like I said earlier Rudy was there for OKC Bombing so he is very well liked and respected here. The Lloyd Noble Center on OU during the winter Convocation the other year was alive when Rudy spoke. Never have seen that reaction to a speaker at OU.

Cannot come up with one name that I think can beat Hillary that supports our troops 100% and the War in Iraq and did not write the CFR bill which I detest. IMHO, we have a bunch of spineless Republicans right now that pay more attention to polls then what is the right thing to do. Some I thought would be good when first elected like Graham turned out to be a dud! I am open to suggestions.
