Again, you can opt out of all vaccines till your nose turns blue....

..but you won't find a pediatrician to take you as a patient...

..at least you won't in my county...(I hear there might be one exception, but I have no proof)

The pediatricians are too afraid of the American Medical Association.

How about forcing women to have pap smears every year? I think that would be better than forcing girls to get a vaccine.

While I can't agree to force any medical procedure on anyone, I do share your sentiment.

Regan80 just posted more info on this thread.

To presume to tell HC about raising children is way beyond your pay grade.

Further you questioned someone's sign on date.

I question your's.

You are on it. You so totally get me. Like, okay, let's make it mandatory to douche children with - I dunno, - Co-cola?

LSM, you voiced the very concern I had. The fact that this is so much more expensive leads me to think a GYN exam would possibly be in order first. After all, they've already said the vaccine is much more potent when the girl's 'not been exposed' to HPV (i.e. psssst, she's a virgin!)

I agree.

In digging around in the Statutes (and contrary to what some have posted), the Governor is NOT the one responsible for deciding whether or no a child should be immunized, it's the Texas Board of Health

EDUCATION CODE
CHAPTER 38. HEALTH AND SAFETY
SUBCHAPTER A. GENERAL PROVISIONS
§ 38.001. IMMUNIZATION; REQUIREMENTS; EXCEPTIONS.
(a) Each student shall be fully immunized against diphtheria, rubeola, rubella, mumps, tetanus, and poliomyelitis, except as provided by Subsection (c).
(b) Subject to Subsection (c), the Texas Board of Health may modify or delete any of the immunizations[0] in Subsection (a) or may require immunizations[0] against additional diseases as a requirement for admission to any elementary or secondary school.

The Governor has ZERO authority to decide whether an immunization should be offered, and he dang sure doesn't have the ability to bypass the legislature.

-----

And a bit further down is this little tidbit:

SUBCHAPTER B. SCHOOL-BASED HEALTH CENTERS
§ 38.053. PARENTAL CONSENT REQUIRED.
(a) A school-based health center may provide services to a student only if the district or the provider with whom the district contracts obtains the written consent of the student's parent or guardian or another person having legal control of the student on a consent form developed by the district or provider. The student's parent or guardian or another person having legal control of the student may give consent for a student to receive ongoing services or may limit consent to one or more services provided on a single occasion.
(b) The consent form must list every service the school-based health center delivers in a format that complies with all applicable state and federal laws and allows a person to consent to one or more categories of services.

§ 38.054. CATEGORIES OF SERVICES. The permissible categories of services are:
(1) family and home support;
(2) health care, including immunizations[0];
(3) dental health care;
(4) health education; and
(5) preventive health strategies.

This is my biggest concern. Both I and my children have been vaccinated at doctor's offices, yet the trend is moving more and more toward the schools being 'health care providers'....even though there is rarely anyone there who actually has a license to practice medicine. A school nurse is usually an LVN or at most, an RN.

-------

According to the Statues, immunizations must be opted INTO not opted OUT OF.

------

His Royal Hindass King Perry has violated the Constitution by bypassing the duly elected legislature, acting in a manner contrary to a republican form of government and blatantly abdicating his responsibility to uphold the laws of this state.

-------------

Impeachment proceedings for the Office of Governor of the State of Texas begins in the House of Representatives, BTW.

Moody said the Texas Constitution permits the governor to order other members of the executive branch to adopt rules like this one.

He's the Decider.

Perry has stepped over the line, Hitler would be proud.

I think a better "executive decision" would be to make every government employee from the very top to bottom take a urine test and background check at least twice a year.

Ya know, just to keep em in check.

Krista, I believe, is a she, and is nothing more than Perry's mouthpiece.

She doesn't get to 'decide' anything and has zero legal authority.

from the article:

The order is effective until Perry or a successor changes it, and the Legislature has no authority to repeal it, said Perry spokeswoman Krista Moody. Moody said the Texas Constitution permits the governor to order other members of the executive branch to adopt rules like this one.

I'm sure glad to know that Rep. Charlie Gonzalez is in the position to help me out on The Decider. He already knows me quite well concerning the border.

Oh, wait. You meant the State House...how silly of me...still, Mama, if you don't mind I'd like to share your post with the AG, and the Committee on Human Services chair, Jane Nelson...

Please feel free to use anything I've posted if you believe it can be useful.

I'm in the process of composing letter to the State reps of my district and will be sending it to them as well.

Keep up the pressure. There are a lot of Texas lawmakers that apparently don't appreciate being run roughshod over by the Governor.

Can't say I care for it much either.

Togetherness ping. Mama, please see the Texas thread. Curmudgeon has reminded me to target the school boards.

I have decided to write urging for impeachment. I'd forgotten his 'sell the lottery' thing. These two with the TransTexas Corridor make three strikes, IMHO.

I don't live in Texas anymore, but my best friend from college is on the school board of a prominent school district. Plus, she has a 9 year old daughter. I need to call her about this, and see what she thinks about it.

No much worse...

It was a plague carried by men that killed only women. Its goal was to render men emotionally. Very wierd but enthralling story.

I looked it up after posting reply. It was polio, according to what I found.

Personally, I don't like the concept that male promiscuity leads to females paying the price.

But then again, consequences are not in my realm, but in the Lord's.
