(02-08) 09:45 PST WASHINGTON D.C. -- A political odd couple, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and White House spokesman Tony Snow, today slammed critics of Pelosi's bid to use a government plane that can fly her nonstop between Washington and her home district in San Francisco.

"This is a silly story, and I think it's been unfair to the speaker,'' Snow told reporters.

Now it's a silly story that Queen of SF wants a plane to carry her, family, etc. all around.

Yeah,I getcha. Yours is likely the more accurate scenario about why the "silly" comment than mine. Regardless, there's no question that nobody in America would have heard any of this unless the WH had been mischievously playing Pelosi, Murtha & the MSM here. I've been getting a real kick out of watching them get punked the last two days. I sure hope this is a sign the WH may be getting some of their mojo back.

Murtha killed Queen Pelosi when he threatened to de-fund our defense. Now both those clowns look like whining kids not getting their candy and WH the adult

You managed to condense it one sentence what I took up forty inches of screen trying to say. Will you be my editor? ;-) Plus, you're also right about Murtha killing the Queen, too! (wonder if he realizes what he's done yet?)

And I wonder if Mama Pelosi has figured out yet that she now looks less like the groundbreaking "Mother & Grandmother" Speaker of the House that her imagemakers have been so desperately trying to promote all over the MSM, and more like the first "Trophy Wife" Speaker : a spoiled, shallow, gold-digging shrew who uses her gender to gouge her sugar-daddy - the american taxpayer! LOL!

If Tony wasn't working for the WH his opinion would be completely different, he would be leading the fight on having her ride her broom....

If R's had any brains, they'd be defining Pelosi the way the turned Gingrich into a monster before he even took office. They should be painting her as a spoiled limosine liberal hypocrite.

Um. Have you paying any attention the last two days? They just did!

Pres. Bush's "crafty maneuvering" might seem like a slam dunk to some but if Pelosi does want to play with the Pent. budget people won't remember this episode. Dems will do their normal spinning about the war and children.

When the story settles it will be remembered for the he said, she said farce it has become "...House Republican leaders have been the most outspoken critics of the negotiations that have been going on between the House sergeant at arms, a GOP appointee, and the Air Force over what plane Pelosi should have access to."

"She also said that if the government can't provide a plane that meets security specifications, she will fly on commercial planes along with her security entourage. That's how she flew before becoming speaker early last month. Since then, she has flown once on a government plane, her aide said Wednesday."

What I want to know from Tony Snow is who is BS'ing, or stretching the truth. Seems Snow and the White House washed their hands so by default it's the Republicans at fault for "leaking" false info.

I think you're overcomplicating this. It's simply mush from a wussy White House that is desperate to get along with the Rats, no matter what. Disheartening, but no surprise.

Its just amazing to me the attitude our "public servants" have toward tax revenues. That they consider the disposition of a multi-million dollar plane, along with its crew, and whether it should be commandeered by Ms. Speaker, a "silly story" is quite telling.

This fits in with the comment made by Everett McKinley Dirksen, "A billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon you're talking about real money."

People must honestly lose their minds when they go to work in Washington. I don't really think we intentionally elect such out-of-touch, greedy feebs, do we?

Stop it! Your reading my mind! ;) "

"First woman speaker" shoved down our throats. Now she cries gender-bias when she doesn't get her way. You hit the nail on the head, my FRiend!

If it hasn't been said already, am I correct in calculating that 3 trips would cost the taxpayers almost a billion dollars? How often does she plan to fly to her home district in a given time period?

Heard today that the cost to keep the anti-corruption queen in the air per trip to her SF residence will be approximately $300,000 of our hard earned tax money. That's liberalism for you. Very liberal with our money for their own purposes. What a selfish prissy pig she is.

I'm surprised that the senate queen, Mrs. Bill Clinton hasn't demanded her own airplane since she already has the 2008 presidential election all nipped up very tidily with her pal Hugo Chavez and his voting machines.

"We think it's important that the speaker of the House enjoy the same kind of security that we arranged for Speaker Hastert in the wake of Sept. 11. And like I said, I think that there's been a lot of over-hyped reporting on this,'' Snow said

Sounds to me that Tony doesn't want to get in the middle of this one *L*

Just as Mrs. Clinton stealing items from the White House and Clinton-Gore staffers vandalizing offices was a "silly (but true) story".
