A team of world-leading neuroscientists has developed a powerful technique that allows them to look deep inside a person's brain and read their intentions before they act.
The team used high-resolution brain scans to identify patterns of activity before translating them into meaningful thoughts, revealing what a person planned to do in the near future. It is the first time scientists have succeeded in reading intentions in this way.

The use of brain scanners to judge whether people are likely to commit crimes is a contentious issue that society should tackle now, according to Prof Haynes. "We see the danger that this might become compulsory one day, but we have to be aware that if we prohibit it, we are also denying people who aren't going to commit any crime the possibility of proving their innocence."
"A lot of neuroscientists in the field are very cautious and say we can't talk about reading individuals' minds, and right now that is very true, but we're moving ahead so rapidly, it's not going to be that long before we will be able to tell whether someone's making up a story, or whether someone intended to do a crime with a certain degree of certainty."

Q
Why would I scan your brain? I'm too busy doing a much more important mammary scan. Priorities, you know.
I can focus on the task at hand quite well.
I just can't multi-task.
*shrugs*
Odd, I know.
Can the scans differentiate between thinking about doing something and actually following through and doing it? There are a lot more murders contemplated than carried out.
Scan a man's brain and they'll discover, that Jeff Foxworthy was right, "I want a beer and I want to see something naked."

I can think of a very practical application.
How about making it a condition of parole for sexual predators and child molesters that they have a brain scan showing that they no longer plan to or desire to re-offend.
The nice thing about this is that I can not see this being a civil rights issue because convicted criminals have no right to early release.

That's probably why you get frustrated trying to multi-task. Just try and concentrate at finishing one thing at a time.
I can't do one thing at the same time and that is frustrating, too.
Use the reverse dictionary features of onelook.com.
Boy, make one lousy mistake on this site and you get hammered big time!!! ;--).
I do want to thank yall for the many, many, many, many, many, many, many suggestions for improving my language skills.
Smiles all around.
Can't get a reading. Not enough blood flow to your brain right now.
That's a good question. If it could not differentiate, it would lead to a lot of false positives.
I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to criticize you. I was letting you know about a truly wonderful resource. A reverse dictionary is a very useful tool.
And it wasnt taken as criticism. The day when I think I know everything and cant be corrected is the day I give up the ghost. What I said was totally in jest and mainly for others that have helped me with my language shortcomings.
I like the site you suggested and have bookmarked it for future use.
Thanks.
Jack Bauer could use this very effectively, and then he wouldn't have to get so upset with people :o)
We have one of those - it is entirely freaky.
. See, you don't need a machine!!!!!
