Prize-Winning Wedding Photo of Wounded Marine
World Press Photo ^ | 2/10/07 | Nina Berman

Posted on 02/09/2007 9:29:24 PM PST by Zeroisanumber

At the request of the artist, I haven't copied the photo in question to this thread. It's viewable here.

The photo took first prize in the portrait category of the World Press Photo awards. It is such a beautiful example of love, determination, and strength mixed with sadness and wistfulness that I was very moved the first time that I looked at it.

Dear God.

That Marine is a hero, and he deserves all our respect.

That poor girl, though. The expression on her face is painful to see.

I really wasn't necessarily complaining but mentioning that this has been posted again. I see FREEPERS doing this all the time. As far as saying you was not on FR enough was uncalled for and I am sorry. I actually was shooting my mouth and see your name all the time. Thank you for setting me straight.

Forgot to mention I'm sometimes referred to as FR's parody poetess laureate-ette. So I wrote one of my creations just for you!

There once was a freeper named Napster
Who inadvertently gave me a bum rapster
But no harm is done
In fact, it was fun
Now come here and sit on my lapster

Smooches :)

Thanks for posting this. I was just thinking about them the other day and wondering if they had married yet.

As far as the look on her face I'm sure if you caught any bride's face at the right moment they might have a look like this.

When the original story broke some uneducated liberal actually said he hoped they wouldn't have children because they might look like he does with the scars.

What a complete moron. His DNA is what he looked like before the injuries. I have a friend who suffered scars in a fire. Her daughter born 4 years later looks like she did before the fire.

I think the bride also deserves credit for standing by him. The road certainly hasn't been easy and it won't be from now on.

Did you read the photographer's web site? She states that these purple heart photos are meant to highlight the terrible human toll of the war. I'm not sure that this is even a real photograph. She has photos of what looks like prisoners at Guantomo, but I don't see how it could be. She has a group of Taliban photos, the only one that I looked at was a woman in a full burka, holding up some scrapbook or something.

Take a closer look.

The photographer states on her web site that the pictures are meant to depict the terrible human toll of the war on Iraq. These are anti-war pictures, that's why the girl looks so forlorn.

So it's a staged photograph?

My guess is yes, it's a staged photo, maybe even two photos put together. This is a horrible web site, exploiting wounded soldiers. She's got pictures that look like they're from Guantonomo, other pictures under a file she calls, the Taliban. This photographer is probably a friend of Crazy Cindy Sheehan.

Take a closer look at the web site of the photographer, she's a Cindy Sheehan clone. She even states that the pictures are aimed at playing up the human cost of the war in Iraq. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the picture was photoshopped.

sadly I agree. Let's not sugarcoat his condition. No woman wakes up one morning and dreams of marrying someone in his condition.
