It was not a smart comment from McCain, but the problem in the article is the editorial comment by the idiot reporter. He's the guy playing that we lost Tet, not McCain.

The fact is if terrorists pick up their attacks, we will suffer more casualties... even if we kick their butts.

With the MSM failing to report anything but our losses, it will be harmful to public support. McCain was right on that.

The full story won't get out as it did not in Tet. McCain was correct if somewhat misguided.

In McCain's defense:

The insurgent leadership has 2 options, sit and wait it out or 2, create a big media splash (Bleeder leaders are easily done). The later has the advantage of a publicity coup for the insurgensts ("we kicked the USA out!!!). It's a very plausible possibility.

"Apparently McLame was so busy spilling info to his captors that he missed the fact that NV lost the Tet defensive badly."

That's one of the dopiest comments that I've seen on FR in months... and McCain is about my last choice as a candidate.

I suspect there is film of McCain receiving very "special treatment" from his captors -- while receiving the "special medical" treatment he received.

Iran will launch such an "offensive," if we allow that to happen. But does our nation have enough will to survive? Are we willing to foot the bill for invading, occupying and denazifying Iran, or will we wait until Iran detonates nukes and activates her many cells in our country?

For all the severe criticism McCain gets on FR, some of it deservedly so, he's been one of the President's strongest supporters on Iraq... people don't tend to realize that.

He was calling for an escalation in U.S. troops in Iraq far back, way before the president recently decided to.

It's hard to tell exactly what you mean by this, but I've heard from at least one other former guest of the Hanoi Hilton that when McCain came back from "interrogations", they would have to wipe his backside for him because he was too badly beaten to do it himself.

I am by no means a fan of John McCain; even if his behavior as a POW were universally acclaimed to have been exceptionally meritorious, he's covered himself in plenty of shame since then.

I myself went through the USAF SERE school in June of 1971; the POW Camp phase lasted two days. During that period of time, one of the general rules was that the "guards" couldn't do anything to us that would cause permanent injury. Even so, those two days alone were unpleasant enough that I swore I would never be "taken alive".

I can't for the life of me fathom how those guys managed to survive those conditions for years without becoming vegetables.

When will McCain just shut up ..??

WE WON THE TET OFFENSIVE - and North Vietnam knew it. It was WALTER CRONKITE who went on the radio and said WE LOST!

THESE STATEMENTS (along with John Kerry's protests) EMBOLDENED OUR ENEMY - and that's exactly what the left is trying to do again.

We are not going to sit still and allow the left to destroy our military again .. too much is at stake this time .. remaining a civilized world is at stake.

inflicted enormous losses on American,,,

Reporters are so taken with the Vietnam mythology that they don't bother to check the facts.

"Tet, a massive 1968 invasion of South Vietnam by Communist North Vietnamese, inflicted enormous losses on American and South Vietnamese troops and is regarded as the point when U.S. public sentiment turned sharply against the war."

The Tet offensive was a military failure big time by the Vietcong. It was perceived as a failure and therefore became a failure when after receiving assurances from the American govt that the war was almost over, there came this uprising. The trust of the public in the govt to tell the truth was lost and then so was the war.

McCain Fears Iraqi "Tet Offensive"

Does he mean that the U.S. will decisively win here as well, only later to have it described by the news media as a victory for the enemy?

I do not want to see casualties on the level of the first weeks of Tet in Iraq. However, given the overall outcome of Tet, it could be a fair trade. Give the military free reign, establish free-fire zones, and bring all our firepower to bear on large formations would show these muslims they cannot win. I would welcome seeing large numbers stacked up, with video and pictures shown nationally and internationally, demonstrating what will happen to those who threaten our sovereignty. We should announce to Iran and Syria that the borders with Iraq are closed, and that any vehicles or people moving would be considered enemy and killed - no questions asked, no ROE snags. If our folks happen to "stray" over the fence a bit, well, GPS is not perfect, there must have been a solar storm, or something like that. Fog of war, and all that, old chap.

"You comments are ignorant and your 'Semper Fi' with it is a discredit the Corps that I know."

My opinion of McCain is the result of extensive reading about McCain as a Naval aviator, POW and Congress Critter...

There is more than enough information and 1st hand testimony published to raise very serious questions about McCain.

For myself -- I have decided it is safer to BELIEVE the negative information than to simply ignore it as many Americans have chosen to do.....

Try reading a bit about the guy, and come to your own conclusions, and allow others to come to their's...

I've come to my decision from a study of the guy, not "ignorance", and I've earned the right to say "Semper Fi" at any time I please....

Everyone is missing the most important point from McCain's perspective. He got a chance to speak with the media. I do wish we could duct tape his mouth shut.
