Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Non-Binding Resolutions (Larry King Live)
HotAir.Com ^ | Feb 14, 2007 | Interview on Larry King Live

Posted on 02/14/2007 9:22:08 PM PST by PhiKapMom

HotAir has a must see video of Rudy Giuliani talking about the senselessness of non-binding resolutions and what's wrong with Washington from the Mayor's appearance on Lary King Live. In case you haven't seen him make this case in the last few days, this is must see viewing:

http://hotair.com/archives/2007/02/14/video-rudy-on-non-binding-resolutions/?s=video

Transcript:

GIULIANI: I mean, you can look at the practical and common sense conclusion on that anyway you want. But there's something more important than that. We have a right of free speech in this country and we elect people to make decisions. Here's what I would prefer to see them do, though, if you ask me what's my view on that. The nonbinding resolution thing gets me more than are you for it or against it. I have tremendous respect for the people who feel that we either made a mistake going to war, who voted against the war, who now have come to the conclusion, changed their minds, they have every right to that, that it's wrong, you should, in a dynamic situation, keep questioning. What I don't like is the idea of a nonbinding resolution.

KING: Because?

GIULIANI: Because there's no decision.

KING: But it's a statement.

GIULIANI: Yes, but that's what you do. That's what Tim Russert does and that's what Rush Limbaugh does. That's what you guys do, you make comments. We pay them to make decisions, not just to make comments. We pay them to decide. The United States Congress does declarations, the war…

KING: So if you feel that way, withhold funds and that's the way you feel?

GIULIANI: The ones I think have a better understanding of what their responsibility is and are willing to take a risk are the ones who are saying we've got to hold back the funds, we've got to vote against the war or we're for the war. And maybe it's because I ran a government and I tend to be a decisive person. I like decisions. And I think one of the things wrong with Washington is they don't want to make tough decisions anymore. Nonbinding resolution about Iraq, no decision on immigration, no decision on Social Security reform, no decision on what to do about energy independence, no decision. You know why that happens? Because it's unpopular.

How can you be sure he wouldnt carry his homestate? If McCain or Rommney is our boy we play defense on the Bush 2004 map with Hillary pouring all her money in Ohio, Arizona and New Mexico playing offense. Rudy turns the whole table around. Now Hillary is worrying about New Jersey and Penn. Rudy would make it extremly hard for Hillary to get Ohio, our Achilles heal in presidental elections. And according to that logic would you also agree Mitt Rommney will not be President?

Is there some reason to believe that he'd lose NY? I wasn't aware of that . . .

Really, haven't you seen the polling? Are you completely disconnected from NY politics?

Sir, do I take it to mean from your statements that if Rudy gets the nomination, you will be taking Free Republic 3rd Party?

I am certain that Rudy will not win his home state and that Mitt and McCain have a better chance of winning their home states.

I think you could be underestimating the beating Hillary is about to take from the loons on Daily Kos and DU, this will hurt her in liberal New York, if she barly makes it through the Dem Primary scarred on Iraq, I believe Rudy can take her in New York

There is no way Mitt Rommney is going to carry his state. Are you completely disconnected from their politics?

No sir, I haven't seen the polling, I'm barely paying attention at this early stage. And I live in Texas.

That's why I'm asking you an honest, simple question -- is there reason to believe he'd lose?

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I would like to see Roe vs Wade overturned and the issue returned to the states. I believe most states would reenact their laws prohibiting abortion on demand. And I doubt that a court that just overturned Roe vs Wade would overrule the states.

Ya, so called Conservaitves so mad about losing last time seem to have accepted and embraced minority status and now prefer to sit out the process rather than participating in our democracy and voting for the candidate who best represents thier views, not who meet every single solitary item on the checklist.

I have relatives in upstate NY who vote Democrat but won't vote for Hillary for President under any circumstance -- have a hunch when push comes to shove she may not win NY. Rudy is the only one of our candidates that has a chance in NY. He also puts CA in play along with WA and OR and some other blue states.

Id also like to add I think its insane that Rudy has to sit there and defend his views while Rommney somehow seems to have slipped that label while cleary stating he is not a conservative several times.

If Rudy wins the primary, there will be a record number of Republicans who won't support him or the party. AND he won't defeat Hillary in the GENERAL.

Hillary will beat Rucy likea drum in the general election.

Thank you for answering.

This is going to be an interesting horse-race. I can't imagine how this will all play out. I thought the Cowboys were going to the Superbowl, so that shows how good my crystal ball is.
