Senate Dems Move to Limit Iraq Mission

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Determined to challenge President Bush, Senate Democrats are drafting legislation to limit the mission of U.S. troops in Iraq, effectively revoking the broad authority Congress granted in 2002, officials said Thursday.

While these officials said the precise wording of the measure remains unsettled, one draft would restrict American troops in Iraq to combatting al-Qaida, training Iraqi army and police forces, maintaining Iraq's territorial integrity and otherwise proceeding with the withdrawal of combat forces.

The officials, Democratic aides and others familiar with private discussions, spoke only on condition of anonymity, saying rank-and- file senators had not yet been briefed on the effort. They added, though, the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is expected to present the proposal to fellow Democrats early next week for their consideration.

The Rats in Congress will do anything to help us lose the war in Iraq. They are as bad as you can get. Un-Patriotic? You bet. More like traitors. And more power to VP Cheney for implying they are.

Normally, I am not a pessimist, but lately I think we have gone to Hell in a handbasket. Good news is scarce. I have no idea what it will take, or if we have the will to take our country back from the left.

Get your 'go bags' ready.... the Demon rats are in charge!!

As soon as the D-Rats pull out and sling the condom into the corner.....

we can expect all terrorists to be on-line booking flights...

so they can come here and blow up the average American.

Instead of the people who have volunteered and been trained to cope.

Legally I do not think they can re-write the 2002 authorization. I think any changes they try and make if passed would be struck down by the Supreme Court. You do not get a do over, once you authorize military action.

Don't desperate. The Dems likely won't be able to pass this crap, which is actually nothing but posturing to please their lefty voters. This so-called "redefined mission" is actually more or less what we are doing right now. The Dems want their voters to think they "stopped" the President or "changed the course". When the war continues (and it will continue), they will blame it on Bush's "stubborness", and when positive results will emerge, they will take credit, due to their "brilliant new strategy".

You may be right. Mark Levin said pretty much the same thing last week, IIRC. The resolution was essentially approval of a declaration of war. And they can't really undo that without withdrawing funding to fight or impeaching and convicting the President. Separation of powers prevents meddling but not posturing.

I am thinking Rudy Giuliani.

The USA is an Italian country. This country was discovered by one Italian.....

Cristobal Columbo.

And it was named after another Italian...........

Amerigo Vespucci.

I think it is about time to respect that!

I am an Irish-Catholic Independent who will vote for Rudolph Giuliani!!

I would like it, if you joined me.

He indicated this. I actually think he isn't going to switch. He is putting pressure on the Dems, not to cut off funding for the war. When they try to stop the war, Lieberman will switch and the Dems will lose Senate. Reid certainly doesn't want to lose Senate.

Righto. They can't rescind a war declaration. They won't get 60 votes for cloture anyway.

One gun control bill ought to wake the people up.

Higher taxes, fund socialism and gun control, it's all Democrats know. Old donks same as new donks.

MY question is: WILL ALL CONSERVATIVES TURN OUT AND VOTE FOR REPUBLICANS THE NEXT ELECTION TO DEFEAT THE DEMOCRATS?

Some of us knew this was going to happen, others posting here kept telling us that it is actually going to be good for us to have the Democrats in power.

I used to say that the Democrats will kill us all. Unfortunately my prediction is getting closer and closer to coming true. And we have "conservatives" like Jonah Goldberg musing that maybe we should let Hillary win, becaues when in power, the Dems will learn responsibility.

We can see how "responsible" they are, trying to do everything in their power to destroy us by handing over power to the terrorists. Nobody is that stupid -- the Democrats want to destory the "imperialist US" just as fervently as the terrorists.

"The Dems likely won't be able to pass this crap, which is actually nothing but posturing to please their lefty voters"

The Dem's need to do nothing, other than continue to have the lefty-controlled MSM trumpet how the Dem's have succeeded in "stopping Bush" or "stopping the War in Iraq", and the moonbats and un-informed believe it's so. Nothing has to happen, or mis-representations can continue to be made by MSM, and the ignorant who believe it to be true and/or want it to be true, are satisfied......

I hope Senate Republicans filibuster Dingy Harry's bill. If by some chance it does get through, it faces a presidential veto.
