You sent them to DC to "teach the Republicans a lesson" for "being weak on Immigration".

Hope you all enjoy reaping what you have sown.

The Reps in Congress weren't weak on immigration, the WH was. And attributing the Dems' victory in the 2006 to Rep voters and immigration is demonstrably false. All elections are local. You need to look at each race individually and determine what the factors were by district and state. The War in Iraq, Rep scandals like Cunningham, Foley, Abramoff, etc. played into the hands of the Dems. They had a remarkable turnout for the midterms because their base was energized.

Hey, everybody! According to MHJohnnie "we" sent Ted Kennedy to Washington. Forget the people in Taxachussets - it was us.

Hey Johnnie, do you think Bush will even consider vetoing this bill?

I live under two of the biggest idiots in the government of the United States, Senators Olympia Snowe (R) and Susan Collins ("I" for independant socialist). Do I want them out because I believe that they weaken this country? You're damn right I do. Did I vote for Snowe in the primaries? Heeeeeellllllll no! Did she sweep the primary? She sure did, because there was no other candidate that came even remotely close. That being the case,I voted for her in the general election, along with a straight rep. ticket.

I'm sure that some Republicans voted Democrat or Independent to "punish" their left-leaning representatives; however, the Republicans lost the election because they have been acting like politicians rather than leaders. The number one ballot box issue in nearly every poll? CORRUPTION.That causes the Republican base to fracture during the primaries as some go in search of a better candidate, and causes the easily-led sheep in the "independent voter" category to lean left of center. Was this primarily because the leftist media painted a pretty picture of the Socialist Lite Party Of Corruption, while damning the Republicans? Of course it was, but that is another issue.

The Republicans didn't lose in a landslide:they lost just enough seats to lose the House and Senate. If you want to point a finger at a voting block, point it at the swing voters, who wouldn't know the right side of a political issue if it bit them on the ass. The majority of the Republican base voted "R".

I am sick to death of people who jump up on a soapbox and point fingers without knowing the actual facts. Change happens incrementally. We need to change the direction of the Republican party, and that is a fact. However, I believe that THE PRIMARIES ARE THE ONLY LOGICAL PLACE TO EFFECT CHANGE; after that, you vote what is best for the America... which is obviously REPUBLICAN! When some of my "conservative" representatives pull liberal crap like shamnesty or spending like drunken sailors, they weaken my country and everything it stands for. For that reason, it's time for them to go. However, with all the idiocy that has gone on in the Republican't party (do I really have to go into all of it?), they are still better than the democrats by a mile.

Remember how we all delighted in the democrat party infighting? So many on this site are doing exactly the same thing... and that is what we are sowing for 2008.

Pull it together... and we will win.

Well placed statement MNJohnnie.

Emotional over pragmatic thinking in political matters in itself is a liberal dogma.

I challenge you to prove that wild, unsubstantiated claim. Let's see the stats that prove that the other issues, like Republican corruption and the ballooning federal budget fueled by the Republican majority, were not involved at all.

Good luck proving that wild claim that the MOTIVATION of voters was to 'teach the Republicans a lesson'. The facts do not support you. And because you made the claim, it's your responsibility to support it with FACTS. Because you won't be able to provide facts that do not exist, if you're too proud to admit you were just blowing smoke, then slither off back to your George W. Bush shrine that you've erected in your living room, and stop annoying the rest of us.

As I understand it, any one Senator can put a hold on a bill.

None did it last sesson.

Will one out of 100 have the backbone to do it this session?

Last session there were even more R's. But still, none of them had the backbone to put a hold that bill.

Some of those Senators with R's following their name speechify allot. But let one, just one, only one show some backbone and put a hold on this bill.

[But don't bet the farm on it. You will probably lose the farm.]

Absolutely, Johnnie. Funny thing, but notice how the immigration issue is not as hot as it once was now that the Dims are in power in Congress. It couldn't have been a wedge issue drummed up specifically to push the buttons of the "real" conservatives, now could it. Couldn't have been designed for the precise purpose of divide and conquer. Nah! Those "real" conservatives are too danged smart to fall for such sly tricks, dontcha think. ;-)

Exactly. But, it is not time just to give up. Being a member and supporter of Numbers, I have found that voter-sender-poster infusion into Congressional debates and legislation, actually has some effect. Take a look at the NumbersUSA site and decide. I often send faxes and actually get responses from interested members of Congress on specific legislation. Kennedy is just one amnesty bill writer. Bush is horrid on this issue but others can be persuaded if the public is willing to do the trench work and send and call those reps in DC.
