BOISE -- According to a bill introduced Tuesday, doctors who perform abortions in Idaho would be required to offer to show women an ultrasound image of their unborn child.
Representative Janice McGeachin, a Republican from Idaho Falls, wants to amend Idaho's informed consent laws just a year after they were passed during the 2006 Legislature with the changes.
She says, giving a woman the right to see an image of her child still in the uterus could deter them from following through with the procedure.
"If a woman could actually see a picture of her unborn child," McGeachin says, "she would make the decision to choose life."
Four Republicans voted to introduce the bill.
Three Democrats opposed it, including Representative John Rusche of Lewiston, a medical doctor.
Although McGeachin said the bill was modeled after a law in Arkansas, Rusche said the measure is confusing.
pro-life ping!
A doctor who wants to can make the ultrasound image as bad as neccessary to convince a woman 'it's just a blob of tissue.'
Gee, let's hope doctors aren't FORCED to show people the results of facelifts, gastric bypasses, etc.
What kind of world will this be when doctors are FORCED to tell patients the facts about a procedure that ends a life?!?!?!?! Fascists!!!! (DUmmie impression over)
Okay - the headline says "forced to show" and the article says "required to offer to show".
A world of difference, IMO.
It will probably be killed (no pun intended) by leftists because the costs in grief counselors will make the whole baby killing thing astronomical.
Just put a newborn in the pregnant womans arms who is seeking an abortion and see what happens. :)
In fact, they should have a "Loaner Baby" at every abortion clinic for just that purpose. Maybe a few of the "Children for ME, but not for THEE" women working at these clinics could bring in their OWN kids for an object lesson?
Plenty of abortionists have their own kids. Go figure.
I have never forgotten the image of the saline-burned "candyapple baby" that brought many of my classmates, including myself, to tears. When people are made to see that its a baby that's being put to death, they often change their minds -- much to the baby-killers dismay. It's a money maker to those folks.
What's this world coming to when people are permitted to make informed medical decisions? Honestly.

The abortionist who "practiced" in Rockford, IL for over thirty years not only had his own kids, he had foster kids. Odf course, he came within a hairs breadth of being prosecuted for child porn involving one of them...but that's just coincidence, dontchaknow...
"BOISE -- According to a bill introduced Tuesday, doctors who perform abortions in Idaho would be required to offer to show women an ultrasound image of their unborn child." It is sad how far behind the curve pro-life is ... three decades ago the pro-killing crowd established their big lie that the unborn are just tissue masses, not children. Now, three decades later, we're figuring out a way to expose the lie while the pro-kill'um crowd have moved on to total dehumanization even for partial birth infanticides and cloning for body parts cannibalism. At this rate, our grand kids will be passing around petitions to have clones sign off on law to ban clone and kill.
Good idea though, let the mother actually see what she is pondering killing.
One step at a time. I understand about incremental change.
In the meantime we butcher thousands.
Yes, I'm sure there's no correlation there that anyone who disregards the life of a child in the womb would see them as anything more than sub-human once born; to be used for their own wickedness. /s
Yeesh!

Women would be offered chance to view ultrasound images.
Idaho recently became the ninth state to order doctors to provide abortion-minded women ultrasound images of their preborn child before having the procedure. The state law, signed by Gov. Butch Otter on March 27, ensures that women have access to as much information about their preborn baby as possible. Experts say providing women with an ultrasound image of their child makes following through with an abortion much less likely. Bryan Fischer, executive director of the Idaho Values Alliance, explained that the mandate is an amendment to the states parental-consent law.
We think thats very important medical information for every woman to have in that situation," he said. "Fortunately, our Legislature agreed, and the governor signed it into law. As with most abortion-limiting legislation, a court challenge is a possibility. But pro-life groups that assisted in drafting the legislation considered laws passed in eight other states, all of which have withstood legal tests. Fischer said he hopes Idaho also will be able to prevent an end run by the courts.
Dorothy Yeung, legislative counsel for the National Right to Life Committee, said if reducing the number of abortions is really everyones goal, this is legislation even the abortion lobby can support. This is simple, commonsense legislation," Yeung told Family News in Focus. "There is nothing unreasonable about requiring a doctor to provide a pregnant woman with her ultrasound.
Some women will change their minds and thus lives will be saved.
